MOTHERF!%*ER!!!!!

Spoiler:
If they hadn't wasted so much time with Carol and Morgan, we might not have to wait until f@&#ing October to find out who the f%#% got Lucille in the brain pan. Goddamnit!

That whistling was f~!$ing annoying and any character who did it should be eaten alive by walkers. F$!~heads.

Jeffery Dean Morgan was f&@@ing awesome.

Scarab Sages

On to a slightly less angry analysis....

Spoiler:
Poor Rick. I think he finally realizes the extent of the threat of the Saviors is greater than anything he could have imagined. His belief they were just a well-organized band of thugs, as opposed to an army of ruthless killers, has now been firmly put to rest. You could see the break-down in the character (a credit to Andrew Lincoln) as the horror of his error dawns on him over the course of the episode.

And credit to the Saviors themselves - the tactics they used were brilliant - you herd the enemy right where you want them, all the while breaking them down psychologically.

I might be imagining things, but I thought I detected a growing contempt in Carl's eye for his father's breakdown.

I still think the Carol/Morgan arc was a bit excessive, but it was well done. I'm guessing the gents they hooked up with at the end are from The Kingdom.

I thought Negan would cuss more. Maybe they're saving it. He was also decidedly non-bigoted, which I understand is different from his comic incarnation.

I still think that whistling was still f@!~ing annoying.

I hate waiting to see who was killed. Damn you, Scott Gimple. Although, in hindsight, I wondered if this was a negotiating tactic, in case one of the actors has to renew their contract. This is a great way to play hardball.

Re:Negan I love Jeffery Dean Morgan (the Comedian) but I'm not sold on this version of Negan. Yet. Not enough of a megalomaniac, not enough of a racist a!$!++$. Yet.

Re:The "Choice". I understand why they did it that way...but I didn't care for the last shot of the season. I think a better way to do it if they didn't want to reveal exactly who it was is to cut to a shot of Rick's face while Negan is bashing in someone he love's skull, while playing the Savior quote, "Like its their last day on earth" and Morgan's statement earlier in the season "It all comes around...". This would have really hammered home the point that it was Rick that got them here. His arrogance put them in exactly this position.

Re:Negotiating Tactic. I hadn't thought of that AZ, you are probably right.

Look, Walking Dead, I went through "Who shot JR." I even sat through the same thing on the Simpsons. This has been done before. Ugh. Do you really need a cliffhanger to rope people in for next season?

Sovereign Court

The Walking Dead? More like "The Ratings Game!"

I thought Negan was WAAAY too subdued. As for his cussing... yeah, you can't do that on network television. Execs said that they filmed two versions though and the potty mouth version might hit the DVD.

Yeah, apparently they did the same thing with the season finale ending at Terminus: Rick throws out "They do not know who they're f&%+ing with."

Wow. Negan made a big impression right off the bat.

I see what you did there

Had to be done.

But Jeffrey Dean Morgan hit a real home run with his monologue. Really knocked it out of the park.

Saw it! and without all the other crap and stupidity!

I found the correct way to watch the walking dead....

The people's couch...

OK I get it now! It all makes sense. The reason the main character Deputy Rick Grimes has zero knowledge of tactics, defenses, physical security, and other basic law enforcement training is the accident that put him in a coma caused brain damage!

TV's fallen paladin....remembers the glory days and being something, but lost all his powers...

The Devil you say!

Binge-watched the entire season in one go.

Gotta say I was baffled at times by some of the character twists as they usually foreshadow them better.

Spoiler:
They have all of these books on midwifery and stuff, plus several characters raised on farms. Why did they insist on going to Hilltop when they should've stayed home and delivered the baby there?

They knew Bad Guys were probably coming. Not a particularly wise choice of departure timing. I understand minds going out the door when baby comes a-calling, but good lord this decision didn't make much sense.

I like Negan as a villain. For me they rather watered down his impact by the above dumb decisions by Our Heroes.

Spoiler:
Well, Dr. Denise is dead and last time Carol tried to wing it, things didn't go so well. Plus, she took off as well, huh? Panicked decision and the Survivors really weren't taking the threat seriously which is a main point.

I was a bit concerned about the uneven tone last season with the Glenn fake out and Carol's big mood swings, but the preview of S7 at Comic Con has got me juiced again.

and Shiva's on! : )

Well, damn.

Scarab Sages

Two for the price of one!

Spoiler:
I think I realized Glenn was going to get it just a few seconds before it actually happened. And that make-up on him after the first hit was just incredible. However, with Abraham and Glenn now dead, this puts the series a bit more in-line with the comics. I did think for a second, when Negan first asked for the axe, that he was going to bring things even more in-line by taking Rick's hand.

That said, I can't help but wonder what's going through the minds of all those poor bastards who were so relieved when Glenn proved to be alive after that fake-out last season.

I especially liked Negan's final method for breaking Rick. It was exceptionally well-calculated. I'm not terribly well-versed in his background, if they've even given him one, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that he had some kind of military training (perhaps with an emphasis on psychological warfare).

Also, kudos to Daryl for getting a good shot in on Negan and not getting Lucille through his own brain pan in return. Though I'm guessing Maggie may have a hard time forgiving him. With the Saviours taking him back to their HQ, I wonder if they're setting up for Darryl to eventually lead them after Negan's fall, instead of Dwight.

All around, a brutal episode. Very emotionally and psychologically scarring for the various characters. It's a good lead in for a season that promises a whole shit ton of violence and mayhem.

I'm not posting spoiler tags because if someone walks into a 4 year old thread with nearly 700 posts and doesn't expect spoilers they are an idiot.

Once again AZ, its like we are twins separated at birth. My wife always thought it was gonna be Abraham, I always thought it was gonna be Glenn. The look she gave me when he popped Red was one of sheer triumph...and it lasted about 12 minutes.

I have the advantage of having read the comics and I knew there was no way they were gonna not use that "Maggie!" line...it was super powerful in the comic. The fact that this episode had some great acting (Andrew Lincoln had me convinced) just made it that much better.

Overall, not an episode I care to watch again, mostly because of the brutality and sheer emotional weight of it. However, it was a wonderfully done episode and worth the wait.

Scarab Sages

Had a thought while out for my morning constitutional...

Spoiler:
In the comics, Negan is eventually defeated and locked up by Rick. I think they'll likely go through with this in the show, since they've already shown Morgan building a jail in Alexandria.

My thought was this....the season finale will show Negan's defeat, but in a parallel of this premiere (when Negan drags Rick into the RV), Rick (with axe in hand) will drag Negan into the house with the jail, but come out by himself.

I stopped reading the comic when they "locked up" Negan because I felt it was a complete gimmick

After every single event which showed Rick was not the kind of person to hold back when it came to killing anyone who threatened his "families" survival, and knowing what kind of person Negan was, even if he was a smart survivor, Rick should have absolutely killed him when he had the first opportunity, keeping him alive was a plot device that was just too over the top for me.

Kirkman has said that the "locking up" of Negan represented a sea change for how Rick will deal with the world, it was supposed to be a massive shift in his behavior.

It actually makes more sense if you keep reading (like 8-9 issues ahead) when you see the bond? between Negan and Carl. Keep in mind, this is like 4ish years ago so it's been while since I read those books.

** spoiler omitted **

Given the way the cast and creators spoke in the after show, I think this is likely to be a multi-season arc.

Scarab Sages

This was like the Yang to last week's Yin.

Spoiler:
For a fake, I thought Shiva was very well done. Tigers are one of my favorite animals, so I was looking forward to this introduction.

As for the Kingdom itself, I love the way they portrayed it - a relatively happy place where they people are trying to engage in as much normal behavior as possible, but with a dark undertone of secrecy and things that need to be kept from the populace (for their own good, of course).

Ezekiel himself was fantastic. I loved the facade of renessaince-style attitude he adopts. Yet he truly seems to be a good man who wants nothing more than to do what's best for his "subjects". I'm only familiar with the actor's voicework, but he does an awesome job.

I loved the "tainted meat" they prepared as tribute to the saviors.

As always, Morgan was a treat. Lenny James is such a great actor. I almost find myself hoping this Morgan doesn't go the route of comic book Morgan.

Next week looks to be a Daryl/Savior centric episode. Could be really awesome.

Dark Archive

Yes, I thought it was enjoyable.
Of course, asking for some kind of barding for the horses wouldn't be too much? I mean, even some layers of heavy clothes and leather would probably make them more effective against walkers?

Spoiler:
The Daryl/Dwight/Savior episode should be good.

The lack of many likable characters made me drop it halfway through last season. There's only so much boundless stupidity I can take, and the characters being smug a!#+*%%s 90% of the time doesn't help. Every time it looks like it's getting better I've been suckered into catching up only to be turned off by the next bullshit twist or whatever.

Not sure if it's my fault for giving the show more chances or the show's for sucking ass.

Guess it's time to catch up, maybe they'll meet a likable black man who dies as soon as it's convenient again.

Scarab Sages

It's probably your fault.

Wasn't there a zombie attack that went like this?

Character is in an open field with no zombies and looks around
Camera pans around show to a zombie who ninjad behind them and attacks them
Zombies who moan rather loudly unless they are lurkers who stand in place for prey so this thing just teleported there.

Aberzombie wrote:

Yeah, probably.

I don't really care for this show much. From someone whom loved the comic and made his whole family watch the shows premier, if you took a picture of me each season , my face goes from a smile of wonder to a a frown of just poor lackluster.

I agree, I think the show's pacing gets worse every season. They stretch and stretch and stretch so they can have a cliffhanger on every episode and then try to cram a whole season's worth of plot into a single episode.

passes through the thread like an errant breeze

Dark Archive

The biggest thing I noticed are their ratings and reviews. Whenever they follow the comic, it is pretty good. People watch, but when they don't ala the Hospital arc, things plummet.

Scarab Sages

Ye gods, that song was pissing me off....

Spoiler:
Seriously, if I were Daryl I think I'd prefer to be eaten alive by the walkers than have to listen to it again. But it was interesting as part of the overall effort to break Daryl down psychologically.

Dwight is either a complete douchebag, or the most calculating, bid-my-time sonofab@&@# in the entire Walking Dead universe. Per the comics, I think I know which.

It was also an interesting insight into life in the Sancutary. I look forward to more of it.

I'll admit, for a fraction of a second, I thought the showrunners might be a#%&!*$s enough to have Dwight looking out at Walker-Daryl at the end there. Man, would that have thrown some fan-boys (and girls) into a tizzy.

And it looks like next week we get to see more of Negan humiliating Rick.

Oh my god! The song! It haunts me! It's been in my head for 3 days.

Scarab Sages

Very interesting episode...

Spoiler:
For the time being, it seems that Rick is most definitely Negan's little b~@~%. Hopefully (and according to the comics) that will change.

I thought for sure that Spencer was going to get it tonight.

Michonne seemed very un-Michonne like with that shooting ut in the field: wasting ammmo and risking attracting more walkers.

Rosita is so f$!+ing hot. I just really wish she'd have punched Dwight's face in. Because, let's face it, that douchebag needs what's left of his face punched in.

Dwight's face does need a good punching.

Scarab Sages

I can't wait to see.....

Spoiler:
That douche bag Gregory get his ass reamed by some bullet or otherwise lethal object. Maybe a knife or machete. Seriously, what kind of pansy asswipe would try and sell out a pregnant chick to save his own worthless ass?

Come to think of it, I know exactly the kind.

Not to mention him trying that creepy ass Hollywood casting couch crap on Sasha. Dude must have been some movie studio bigshot or other celebrity type before the Walkerpocalypse went down.

The scene with Jesus, Sasha, and Maggie going all shit crazy on those walkers was pretty cool. Jesus is a badass mofo.

The Saviors are really just a bag of dicks, when you get down to it.

Carl and Whatever-the-f~@#-her-name-is sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I....ah who gives a flying f$*#. But maybe Carl and Jesus can f&!# some people up when they get to the Savior's place. Carl is still a little nutsack, though.

Carl has grown on me since Season 2 when I hated his guts. Jesus on the other hand has always been a favorite of mine, even in the comics.

I thought since the prison, that there were times when Carl should have been in charge. He gets it.

That said, yeah, on the farm he was a putz.

Scarab Sages

What the f+$+ was that?

Spoiler:
I didn't realize until tonight that Tara had been absent since.....what?....sometime last season?

Too soon for Oceanside. In the comics, they didn't show up until after the war with Negan. By introducing them now, I think the writers are just throwing too many new communities at the audience, expanding the world too quickly.

All in all, this episode just seemed to disrupt the flow of the season so far. Overall, I thought it sucked balls.

Scarab Sages

As a follow-up, it kind of reminded me of an episode of Lost, but with undead.

Ugh, we you only run 7 episode half-seasons there isn't time for this chicanery. There wasn't enough time for what was already going on. :(

You guys thought they were gonna push the action?

TWD is like a play by post game here on the forums, a ton of action at the beginning and then a massive lull. Then something cool happens, and then another lull. It's like this every single season.

Edit: But yeah, this episode was kinda pointless and seemed like a spinoff.

At this point I don't think they have any real ideas on how to end the series. You can keep writing comic book characters for seventy years, they never get any older, but television is a different animal. Actors might want to make a movie, or move to a higher paying role on a premium cable network. They may have to kill carl just because the actor gets too old to play the character anymore.

It would be sad if the series just, you know, sort of went off the air one week and we never saw any resolution to whatever storylines might be running, but I'm afraid it is either that, or they run toward an acceptable ending for all the actors and writers participating and hope the audience takes it in stride.

Come on, seriously, this isn't the Simpsons and it will probably end sometime sooner than we think.

I think Kirkman has said he wants to keep doing WD for as long as he can. Might be hyperbole but one never knows.

Scarab Sages

That was a f%++ing awesome episode.

Spoiler:
Very much following the comics, which I love.

Every Negan and Carl scene was pretty awesome. The kid playing Carl did an incredible job. Seeing more of the inner workings of the Saviors was cool. And Negan's personality quirks on display were interesting.

I have a newfound respect for Father Gabriel. I forget the name of that dude he was with, but I can't wait for that little b&$*~ to get f@!+ed up.

All the back up stories were pretty cool as well. Rosita and Eugene making bullets. Rick and Aaron finding some very well protected supplies. Michonne planning something very foolish.

And with next week's mid-season finale, we get two 90 minute episodes in a row. More than makes up for last week's lame crap episode. F%@@ing sweet!

Kirkman knows how it ends. Also, I believe there is a bit of a jump ahead after the "All Out War" storyline anyway which could account for older actors.
