Need help with new character build - Aasimar Oracle

Advice

Scarab Sages

Howdy all,

So I'm creating a new character. She is a NG Aasimar Oracle. As the protege of my venture-captain character, I have selected the following stats:

STR 10
DEX 12
CON 12
INT 14
WIS 13
CHA 20 (this includes the +2 bonus awarded to the protege per the EotT part IV chronicle)

Never really having played spellcasters in all my years, this is where I kind of get stuck.

I am thinking of taking the curse "Tongues", the mystery "Life", and the revelation "Channel". She will know four 0-level and two 1st-level spells, and will be able to cast five 1st-level spells per day initially, in addition to the orisons. As far as spells, which would be good choices for her to know?

I would really appreciate any feedback on this character build. Does this work, should I change it (and to what), etc.

Thanks in advance for your input.

If you're going with channeling on an aasimar oracle, I highly suggest the alternate favored class bonus that aasimar oracles can get: one revelation treats you as 1/2 a level higher (per time that you take the FCB) when determining its effects.

Take that every level for channeling, and you'll be channeling 2d6 at 2nd level instead of 3rd, 5d6 at 6th instead of 9th, etc. Uber heals!

Also, keep an eye on your STR and the weight of your armor/gear.

So it looks like you're going for a healbot character. If that's what you want, then you really don't need your CHA quite so high, because you won't be worried about high DCs on your spells. You also probably don't need such high INT, since Oracles get decent skill points anyway.

Also on your stats, what variant of Aasimar are you using? You could probably do better than the standard +WIS/CHA, since you don't really need WIS for anything (especially with good Will saves). Perhaps the Azata-blooded, which gives you +DEX/CHA, for better AC.

As far as spells, you get Cure Light Wounds for free, so for the other two, I'd suggest Bless, which is always welcome, and perhaps something more offensive, such as Doom or Command.

If your going healbot, I would take up a buff or debuff role as well. The Life Mastery caters to this with its free spells known, but being able to remove status' or buff the party is always appreciated.

Depending on what you intend to wear could sway your stat choices, or how you want to play into your skill selections. The INT score is only giving you additional skill ranks, where you could bolster your DEX for better range touch attacks. Using meta magic feats for your touch spells or a Rod of Reach makes it easier for you to stay out of most combat and effectively fill your role and possibly gimp your STR score if you wanted to.

Life Oracles are just plain wrong. An Aasimar Life Oracle is no exception, especially with the Favored Class bonus for Channeling. I would highly, highly recommend you purchase Blood of Angels for the amount of awesome stuff in there.

Some ideas:
-The Life-Link Revelation allows you to 'link' with up to one target per Oracle level, healing them 5 hit points a round and damaging you 5 hit points. You may ask yourself "Why?". Channeling has a limited radius and Cure Spells require you to be adjacent to a creature and touching it. Life-Link allows you to slowly accrue the damage on to one target (yourself) and easily use a Cure X Wounds on yourself while staying out of harm's way. A high CON lets you do this for a significant amount of time without putting yourself at risk and if the party still needs channel healing you'll benefit from that just like they do.

-Agathion-Blooded (Idyllkin) gives you +2 CON/+2 CHA if you're interested in maxing out HP. Your Spell Like Ability swaps to Summon Nature's Ally II, however, which doesn't scale too terribly well. But what you're really after is the CON bump. It's not necessary and if another ancestry speaks to you more, just try your best to get CON to 14 if you're interested in the above strategy or just making sure you stay up. An unconscious healer can't help anyone.

-Definitely focus on channeling. If you use all of your Favored Class Bonuses to improve the Channeling revelation, you'll Channel Energy as if you were a 18th level Cleric at Oracle level 12. That means 9d6 healing/hurt to undead. Improved Channel, Alignment Channel (Evil), and perhaps even the Channel Force feat chain (lets you push/pull channel targets) are good ideas.
