Actually, what a nuke gives them is what it gives all of the minor nuclear powers: insurance against attack.

Everyone should have them.

As I said before, mostly they have a much better deterrent against conventional attack, which does let them throw their conventional weight around with less concern.
I don't see them as having any more reason to export the tech than the other minor nuclear powers. It's mostly an engineering and infrastructure hurdle at this point anyway.
And if you think a Shiite Persian state is going to become the natural leader of Sunni Arab states just because they're all Muslim and Iran has the bomb, you really haven't been paying attention.

Agreed on all points but have one caveat on the bolded one; remember AQ Khan? Pakistan at the very least turned a blind eye to his, um, educational activities, and more likely provided approval and substantial support.

As I said: No more reason.

Yes, every new nuclear power makes it easier to spread, but at the same time I don't think Iran is going to send copies of "How to become a nuclear power for Dummies" to every other Muslim country, which is what some people seem to think.
Emailed out right before they drop their first bomb on Tel Aviv, of course.

It's certainly not a good thing for Iran to get the bomb, but hardly the imminent apocalypse some are predicting.

Me against my brother, my brother and I against our father, me my brother and my father against my uncle, me, my brother, my father, and my uncle against a stranger.

Then again europe had its best successes in the crusades by playing cairo against damascus. As long as we're a reasonably cooperative evil world ruling empire the Suni arab states (or at least their well paid leadership) should go along with us. I think there's some legitimate concern with whether a democratically lead arab state would feel the same way.

It does however force you into a situation where you must respect their borders. But the problem is this: You is all crazy people who believe in a God and impose that belief on others. I don't think you can be trusted with the rights of the few of us who know better and thought we could tolerate you breathing oxygen. In the end this will descend into war.

I've yet to convince any of my arabic friends to dress like that so we can dance from bar/club to bar/club on halloween to see how many fundi's on both sides we can piss off. Good times...

Hm, I don't know. Iran bombing Israel does seem like an ilogical action in pretty much all scenarios I can think of baring Israel attacking them first, and as much as Ahmadinejad loves to threaten everyone, Iran simply doesn't strike me as such a senseless country to get itself caught in a suicidal exchange of pew-pews that would gain them nothing.

In fact, not having Israel around to blame for everything would probably be less politically profitable for Iran than bombing it away.

Whatever Happened to that Iranian Bomb Plot Case?

I blame Alec Guinness and his fake nose.

I know I should let it go, but this has been bothering me like an itchy scab:

It was, of course, Anthony Quinn who wore a fake nose in Lawrence of Arabia. Sir Alec wore one in a different David Lean film.
