How about this, a competent pilot and crew.

A service droid or 5.

So each room is built like they are giant legos huh? that way it can be taken apart and put back together in an emergency.

A bunk.

Because that's where I'll be.

If it's for a Firefly d20 campaign, I'd want a small arms armory with a hat rack =)

And Freehold DM, all Ludovico-ed up. Guess what's playing tonight, FHDM?

Take my love.
Take my land.
Take me where I cannot stand.
I don't care,
I'm still free.
You can't take the sky from me.

Take me out to the black.
Tell em I ain't comin' back.
Burn the land
And boil the sea.
You can't take the sky from me.

Have no place I can be
Since I found Serenity.

But you can't take the sky from me.

Playing this at the start of each session would be pretty amazing.

A hidden pirate interstellar internet broadcasting station! PCs are broadcasting sedition, and must stay on the run jumping from uplink node to uplink node to stay away from the authorities. The broadcast suite itself is hidden in their ship. Nodes might range from satellites/comm buoys, to major space installations, to planetside terminals. In between broadcasts, they must gather data to broadcast: meeting with shady information brokers, oppressed common folk, fellow freedom fighters, moles or turncoats within the Bad Guys, etc. They figure out how to spin it, how much to lie, how much truth to tell, how much to cover over. Also they must take on other jobs to fund themselves and provide semi-legitimate cover.

I know it's the wrong series, I really do, but I just keep coming back to Amy Pond.

Regardless of genre, if I had a vehicle of ANY SORT, I would want her there. /wistful sigh

Take my love,
Tale my land,
But just don't take all my pecan.

I know they have highly advanced gravity-based technology (they terraformed planets and moons to have Earth-normal gravity), so I was thinking of a combination tractor-beam/transporter, that creates a bubble of atmosphere and lifts and lowers crew and cargo.

EDIT:

A cloning chamber so everyone can have their own personal Amy Pond!

And that's not creepy at all.

That reads dangerously close to being a reference to a specific scene in Serinity!

How about a security chief who can defend the ship at least better than Worf?

Let's put it this way.

You need to get away from "blood on the hull" before you can get away from that scene.

Ooooo! OOOOO!

You should have one of those hidden smuggling compartments that the crew isn't at first aware of. When they find it, inside are a pair of blue gloves! dun Dun DUNNNNN!

DEFINITELY going to have to use this!!!

dun Dun DUNNNNN!!!! Indeed!!!!

But instead of singularity projectors and quantum entangled subcutaneous personal communication devices, I was thinking more on the line of sp'pool tables or sp'fish tanks.

Fish tank with an endangered species of fish in it? or a small shark?

Miniature giant space hamster, in cage with lots of tubing.

2 shrunk whales (keeping in mind the size of the ship) just incase you bump into any of those annoying types of space probes.

A breeding pair of skunks or similar alien animal, so you can farm the, lets say unique feature and vent it out onto the hull to repell any horny/hungry space monsters.

The screen door keeps the space books out when you just want to open the door for some fresh air.

That's it. I'm just duct taping fans of the show/movie to the hull before I lift off.

The funny thing is how there's not really any need to stretch the reference either. If I didn't know better I'd have thought it intentional.

Of course, I really should have been gaining up on Sebastian. It's a fantastic pasttime.

When I really want to get him worked up, I remind him of the time back in 2006 I got him to admit he was wrong about something.
