Everyone knows that Chain Devils are not Baat'zeu. Even though the SRD won't use that term, chain devils do not share other devils common racial traits.
Zon-Kuthon as a LE god cleans up this difference.
The related devils are Asmodeus's minions. Chain devils belong to Zon-Kuthon, who shares their aesthetic.

I liked them better when they were Kytons and all dwelled in the City of Jangling Hiter. Oh the good old days of Planescape. For a while I ran a Planescape game where the characters had an amulet of the planes. The game ran more like an episode of Sliders cause the Amulet had a variable recharge time. Sometimes they could use it right away and sometimes not.
There was many a time the PCs used it to escape a nasty situation to find themselves in an even more unpleasant situation. It was awesome! Made me really think on my feet.
