I just wanted to take a minute and say thank you to the community for not being a bunch of ass-hats. I spend the majority of my online forum time at this website and this website only. So I have have been accustomed to civility and Reasonable discourse. long story short I have a WRX and went to a Well Known WRX forum and posted a simple question about what I should next to my car now that I have some money. just like asking character advise. I keep forgetting that this forum exists in a bubble and people are nice. I was told that less than helpful advise even though every Dang time it happens I keep coming back. (so in a way it is your fault for lulling me to a false sense of internet decency) never again it i snot worth it and people don't answer my question or even ask other qualifying questions about what I need. not like here. What I am trying to say is this place is my internet cheers and Toz and Gorb are the Norms and Grick is the Cliff, and Ashiel is the Diane and black blood troll is the Sam. and tiny coffee golem is the Frasier. I feel lucky to be able to sit here at the bar next to you and be a small part of your community thank you.

I don't understand, but I like it!
This is about 35% of my existence.
The rest is the same but "don't like it" (55%) and then mixed other reactions when I do understand.

Man, I remember when TOZ was still new to the Boards -- now I guess it seems he's taken over Heath's spot. I remember a few years ago when Heath was Norm.
(But I guess that's what happens when you start calling yourself "Spanky" and try to pass yourself of as a Leprechaun instead of the Werewolf miniature we all know you to really be.)

Well, I just checked -- Heath has 68 thousand posts to TOZ's 21K.
Heath wins.
OMG!
I remember when I hit my 100th post and started a Thread about who had the most posts, it was one of the ones from about 5 or 6 years ago -- I asked Heath if he had hit 5 digits yet (the Boards didn't show everyone that info back then) but Heath was still around 8K; he said give him a couple months to get to 5 digits. And OMG! Heath has 68,000 posts now. Jesus.

In defense of some car forums, we do get these questions frequently and they're generally really vague. That DOESN'T justify rudeness, but it's really hard to be helpful when someone shows up and says "I have $1,000 so what should I buy?" There's a LOT you can do with a car and options vary from appearance modifications to performance modifications. Throughout all of that, personal preference and style comes massively into play. The only way it resembles character advice is when people ask "I'm about to start a new game... what should I play?"
Car forums tend to get kind of worn out by the same old questions over and over again. Hundreds of members have posted thousands of threads with additional thousands of pictures of all of the modifications they've made. Changes have been documented, how-tos posted, links to where to buy things have been provided... you name it. Then a newbie shows up and doesn't read a darned thing, doesn't say "hey, I liked X that I saw in thread Y, how do I do that?" Frustration abounds. Again, not justifying rudeness, but explaining it.
But bottom line is that Paizo.com is very, very well moderated. While there's still plenty of asshattery, it's generally under control. So the spirit of your post is a good one.

I quote Lisa Stevens in this thread.
As for the messageboards, they started partially as a way to communicate with our customers, but I also had an idea in the back of my head. I had read this interesting business article about the third place. The idea goes like this: everyone has two places in their lives that are important to them, work and home. However, many people also have a third place, you know where everyone knows your name and their always glad you came. This could be a bar, a church, a gym, a country club, a restaurant, etc. And I thought to myself, wouldn't it be cool if paizo.com could become a third place for our customers? A place where they enjoyed coming, hanging out, talking to us and to each other? I figured that if we could build that third place and people came by, they would shop here too. Turned out that I was right. :)Paizo.com is certainly MY third place! I came by, and eventually, I started shopping here too.
But bottom line is that Paizo.com is very, very well moderated. While there's still plenty of asshattery, it's generally under control.
That is true. Of course, due credit must be given to the community at large. The best, most hard-working moderators could only do so much good if too many users were determined to drag it down.
But yes, I agree with the OP. Now and then, bad experiences on other websites serve to remind me of why I keep coming back here.

We're not using the Muppets in this thread. Although a Cheers/Muppets crossover would be epic.
