I have a quick question about Ioun Stone Resonance. In Seeker of Secrets, it mentions that ioun stones have a 75% chance of resonating with a Wayfinder.
How does this work? When you purchase the ioun stone, do you as the GM if you can roll the 75%? Or is it assumed that it will resonate (thereby keeping every ioun stone standard)?

The ioun stone's base power is negated in favor of the resonant power. The key language is from page 51 of Seeker of Secrets under Wayfinders and Ioun Stones...
"Within each wayfinder is a fine lattice of wires that serve to channel the power of ioun stones, allowing the owner of a wayfinder to benefit from a stone's power without the attendant risk of having a valuable item orbiting around her head. In addition, the magic worked into the wayfinder amplifies the power of the ioun stone, usually unlocking new abilities in addition to the stone's normal power. Unfortunately, the energy required is such that the magical properties of the wayfinder itself are diverted to power the ioun stone, temporarily negating the wayfinder's normal abilities."
So, while the ioun stone's base power operates, as well as the resonant power, a standard wayfinder would no longer be able to provide light.

Without owning Seeker of Secrets can a character benefit from Resonance power or do they need this before a character can gain the added benefits from adding and ioun stone to a wayfinder?
You would need the book, PDF, or printed out pages with your watermark on it.

Bob, you just contradicted yourself.
The Ioun stone works fine and is improved, it is the wayfinder that no longer works if the ioun stone is in the wayfinder. I know you said it at the end, but your end does not match your beginning...

At present, per Additonal Resources and the FAQ, no inferior Ioun Stone has any resonance, all unflawed Ioun Stones have resonance.
I'm so sorry for the necro thread, In the FAQ and the Additional resources I can only find "Additionally, only normal ioun stones have resonance" I see no reference to 100% or "All" unflawed stones having resonance. Could someone please point me to the correct ruling? Im still not sure if the DM is supposed to Roll the 75% chance, or If i can safely assume ALL unflawed ioun stones have resonance. Im looking for an official ruling here.

Lau, Thank you for your response, FYI i agree with that ruling i was only playing devil's advocate. I dont suppose theres a ruling anywhere for addressing % issues in PFS? I was attempting to answer the question without any room for doubt.
Kerwin, There is noting in Seeker of secrets, the additional resources or the FAQ that i could find that suggest that.

I know i've allowed uses for the "other pathfinder pouch" before but that is taking it too far...
lol, I can only think of one place to implant a Wayfinder.. Apologies for my crudeness.

Here is a post from then Campaign Coordinator Joshua Frost stating that we don't use the variable method for determining resonant abilities. According to earlier posts in that thread he had made a previous declaration that all normal ioun stones have resonant powers. Give me a chance to look it up.
edit:
Here it is.
It was in the Guide to Organized Play back then. Hopefully, it is one of the fixes for version 8.1 of the Roleplaying Guild Guide.

If it's "cracked" or "flawed", it doesn't resonate.
So what is stopping you from putting a cracked or flawed Ioun Stone into a Wayfinder and using it there despite its failure to resonate? If I understand things correctly, you should have the base powers of the Ioun Stone and the Wayfinder but not the resonant power that the Wayfinder would confer on the Ioun Stone.

Who said anything was stopping you? It was simply stated that they don't resonate.
