yes, and both. I had a lot of fun playing a half-orc alchemist with exotic weapon proficiency (firearms) and explosive missile. Screw you, reload times, I have discoveries! The half-orc favored class bonus to bombs was nice, too. Immolation bomb is a fantastic discovery to get, also
Keep in mind that you can use magic bullets for that, also. It's really great if you're allowed to buy enchanted ammo in small quantities, so you can stock up on various baned bullets, holy ones, some different elemental types. Don't forget the specific bullets, like the burrowing or marker bullets

Something I would suggest, if you plan on using Explosive missile as your main offensive option, I would go full alchemist. More bombs, more damage per bomb, higher level buffs, and more discoveries. You'll get an extra 2d6 damage per bomb and have 5 more per day, and access to the level 8 discoveries like Force Bomb (don't knock the change to d4's, not being resisted by anything makes it golden). It would require you taking a feat for the gun proficiency, but also consider that you'll be immune to poison
