I also find Halflings mechanically to be pretty inferior, which irks me.
I gotta confess, the only thing that got me to play a halfling in Xendrik Expeditions was the combination of a Dex bonus, the small size attack bonus, and the Halfling +1 to hit with slings and thrown weapons, as I made an alchemist's fire tossing sling-using ranger who ended up with +10 or so to hit at 4th level, which, for a non-optimizer like me, was pretty hot.
The loss of the +1 to hit with slings/thrown weapons in PF was a large strike against me playing a Halfling in this system.
Yeah, I know, shallow to abandon an entire race over a fiddly little mechanical thing like that, but the race as a whole never really appealed to me anyway, so I kinda had to find excuses to play them...

I never play anything that isn't good looking.
I only play Vampires in settings where they actually match there mechanics and aren't hideous.
I never play Gnomes, but only because I cant find any picture of one that isn't ugly. That is a part lie. There is that Gnome avatar like picture I think is for 4e, but its just a headshot so its not a full picture.
I never play Warforged because apparently they only have male appearance even if Identified as female. Maybe slight alterations, but its hard to identify warforged 'genders'.
Needless to say from the first statement, I never play any beast-like races. Such as Minotaur, or Kabold. The closest I get is Kitsune :3
I never play Wizards, and I avoid Prepared casters whenever possible. I make an exception sometimes for Clerics, because at least they can do cure/inflict spontaneously. I hate Prepared casters. Wake up in the morning to an ambush? Your clucked. Wizards seem to have less spells per day as well, which means since they are prepared I usually have to throw them all into one spell at that level I think the most useful... So I use spontaneous, I simply know spells by heart and cast them at my leisure so long as spells per day remain.
I almost never play anything that doesn't have spellcasting as it gives more options.

I fall in the land of "To hell with wizards." A wizard goes to school. A sorcerer is born. Magic is in my blood vs. magic is science. Seems lack luster when you go to roleplay it too; The Wizard says, "I went to a college for the last 12 years. Finally, I can make my own way in the world." The Sorcerer replies. "Twelve years, you say? I fought fire with an inferno. I pushed back the goblin army of Karag the Fire-eater away from the village of Gravewood when I was 14." Just not feeling it. (Could be cause I am in film school now and I see Edgar Wright making master pieces..)

Come to me with that sorcerer and I'll ask 'Why are you only 1st level then?'
The Wizard could just as easily be 'Kalmar, Acolyte of the First Seal, having explored the Netherealm at my master's side, parleyed with the All-Seeing Eye for secrets unknown to mortal men, and contested wills with the Gate of Truth' while the Sorcerer is 'Dartmouth the scullery boy, banned from stablework after accidentally burning down two barns with his unskilled witchcraft'.
