If people in your state make less on average than people in other states, and much of the hiring came from minimum wage jobs, that is fair to point out when someone comes in touting job growth.

If 100 people making 50k a year get fired and replaced with 150 people making 15k a year, less people are unemployed, but the economy isn't particularly improved.

Cost of living makes it not matter as much to the people living in the state, but it still matters. And part of low cost of living comes from low housing costs because, well, houses are cheaper when they have a surplus of them because people don't make enough to pay for them.

Texas is a good place to live if you don't mind the heat and you have the skills so that you can get a decent job. But the average Texan makes less than the average American, and we all use the same currency. And the job growth in Texas has been largely in low income jobs.

Of course recent statistics are showing that Mexicans are returning to mexico in growing numbers bc the GDP of Mexico is growing faster than ours

http://www.startribune.com/world/148614575.html

Also I live in a state...Tennessee with a much lower cost of living than the national average... 60k in Tennesse makes you in the upper income whereas the same 60k in Cali or New York puts you barely above poverty, so as usual the babbling about cost of living not matter is complete and utter BS, even gas, rent and food are significantly cheaper here than many states... usually Blue states btw, the idea that the difference in cost of living is an insignificant statistic is moronic, I have lived in Chicago and SoCal as well, the difference is night and day.

Hey, I thought it was pretty funny.

Texas is really healthy right now. (Houston, where I live, is awash in energy jobs.)

They're in the clean, environmental energy industries, too.

Main one hiring is Soylent Green.

By taking a look at your picture on your FB page, I'm sure you would. ;)

I just thought it funny, that the job growth that was being touted was due largely inpart to Big Bad Evil Federal Government, the very thing that Texas was against. Kinda like cutting your nose off to spite your face. But then again, having qn unemployment rate of 6% compared to 9% is a good indicator of where I'd rather be. And COL is a HUGE part of the equation. If I could, I'd move back to Idaho because I can get a three bedroom house for less than what I'm paying for a two bedroom apartment.

Well, I don't about the rest of y'all, but here in New Hampshire, we

Live free or die, m&#$~+!%+%%+!!

As for the other 49, they all equally suck.

New Hamphshire is just a boro of Massachusetts don't kid yourself.

Massachusetts is pretty cool, too.

EDIT: Woops! Wrong hat!

Fine -- if you hate New Hampshire so much, just leave!

But that doesn't work! I've shrunk!

I must be in an alternate dimensional Texas! Oh gnoez!

Porthos: "How, does it not?"
Athos: "Indeed, I know it does not, and I will explain."
Porthos: "Please do."
Athos: "Well, they both wrote plays."
Porthos: "Mordieu! Both, you say?"
Athos and Aramis: "Indeed."
d'Artagnan: "Well, to which then are you referring?"
Porthos: "I will tell you."
Aramis: "I have wanted nothing else for an hour."

Only when you act the ass while you do it. :)

This thread has been people acting like asses since the first post. Don't lay that blame at the Texan's feet.

There's only so many ways you can call the Arizona Secretary of State a dumb@$$. There's also the conflict of interest thing he has going, being the co-chair of Romney's campaign in the state.

If your state claims job growth over a period of time in which it also had unemployment numbers rise...

...you might be a redneck!

/ducks

(And yes I know Wisconsin is nominally trying to do the same thing, or at least our governor is (by blatantly fudging numbers) but we're TRYING to give him the boot, give us credit!)

It's.......dumbasses.....pfft....Delaware destroyer (of the english language) in the house....

Delaware isn't a state. It doesn't even exist.

In Texas, they'd call Delaware a "ranch."

A mid-sized ranch with so-so cattle.

You keep fictitious addresses for credit card companies on ranches?

This is no fun; fakey's gonna be gone for another week, and the thread will be locked by then.

Don't like Texas then don't move there, otherwise grow up and leave Texas be. That is all.

The Exchange

you know this makes about as much sense as edition wars.

The Arizona guy is a nut and will most likely not last another term.

Texas is not any better or worse than any other state.

The entirety of the "bashing" on Texas was a joke on my part. The fanatical response only deepens my convictions and prejudices against Texans, however.

No idea what any of this Texas stuff has to do with the actual topic.

Anyway, as someone who lives in AZ...I can't say I'm surpised. Disgusted, but not surprised.

Yeah. Arizona always seemed kinda neutral to me, but now that I have relatives living down there and I visit from time to time, it's on my s*!* list.

I lived in Arizona for several years. What I liked about it:

1. Buying booze in the grocery store.
2. The beauty of the desert.
3. My job.
4. Sonoran Mexican food (which is distinct from Tex-mex or Cali-mex food, and which I miss intensely now).

What I didn't like about it:
1. Pretty much everything else, but especially the politics and the guns.

As to the topic of the thread, I'm unsurprised that the birther movement finds allies in Arizona politics. Arizona's political climate doesn't exactly invite moderation.

Arizona has some beautiful deserts.

Oh, but that means you got to see the night sky over the desert, which is pretty breathtaking, if you happen to be in a reasonably remote area. (And really, outside of the Phoenix, Tucson, and Flagstaff metro areas, Arizona is pretty much ALL remote. :))

In Texas, my co-workers refer to their yard in the suburbs as a "ranch."

If you came through during the summer, doing so at night is for the best. ;-)

Scarab Sages

It's been more years than I care to count since I lived in Arizona. It was...Sane.

I love the desert South West. Besides the home in Kingman, we used to own two vacation homes; one in Flagstaff that he inherited from one of his uncles, and another outside Lake Havasu.

As opposed to how I claimed Delaware doesn't even exist, and no one cares. Which I feel only strengthens my claim.

Thats how about half the people I know from Mass feel about Romney. The other half weep.

I just glad that Pawlenty no longer has a job.

From joy or sorrow? On second thought, don't answer that question.
