Oh, those aren't the best choices, James, I agree about that.

I was just trying to point out that you can stack effects.

As I said gentlemen, definitely something I am going to talk to my DM about, in switching over to a ring for my arcane bonded item.

But I thought you were limited on the amount of additional abilities for a magic item? Even if it is unlimited, I think my DM will probably put a limit, but I will need to talk to him about it.

Thanks!

The only limit is cost. Adding an enhancement to an already-magical item costs 50% more.

Ok.

What I remember now, my DM did not put a limit on the number of abilities, but did away with the static %50 for each additional one. Instead he made it increasing exponentially. The first ability would be %50, then %100, then %200, and so on.

We are gaming today, so will talk about it with him then.

Note though that all custom items are with DM permission only.

There's a difference between further enchanting an item with standard item enchantments and a real custom item.

Giving a ring of protection +2 the powers of a ring of invisibility is just as 'radical' as increasing a +2 longsword to a +2 vorpal longsword.

Meanwhile making a +1 sacred bonus to AC item is a truly custom item.

It is the later that needs DM approval and pricing, while the former needs no more DM approval than crafting the base items.

lol Just noticed my typos on my percentage numbers. Not sure why I put the percentage first, oh well.

I spoke with my DM yesterday and he approved the change on with my arcane bonded item, changing from an amulet to a ring. I didn't talk about stacking magical abilities on the one ring yet, as I'm probably not going to do so for awhile, anyways. Will deal with it when it comes.

Also, I took the advice of James (Maissen) and I will be taking Leadership at 7th level, instead. I explained the situation to my DM, in trying to free up a couple of my item creation slots, and wanted to put them on my cohort instead. He had no problem with that. So he let me take off Craft Wand, and Craft Magic Arms and Armor will be going on my cohort, as well.

I decided to keep Craft Wonderous Item as I've already made several wonderous items, and he preferred it, as well.

In the end, I truly only opened up one feat slot for metamagic feats or other feats I wanted to take, as I need to take Leadership. However, I will be gaining the powerful Leadership feat, so I have no problem with that. And as James said, it does work very well with the settlement we have going. Finally, it also allows me to have Craft Rod (through my cohort), as well, which I wanted to take, but having 3 item creation feats was already a bit too much.

Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions!

Well, not really I think, since all gold cost guidelines are guidelines it's implied they are for the DM to decide on.

Just like how you can't as a player rule that your character's followers are all bugbears, even if bugbears are a creature in the bestiary.

I think the matter of ANY magic item that doesn't show up in the book is a case of DM adjudication. There are specific rules for increasing the power of magic weapons and other items into other explicitly allowed items - since a ring of protection +4 exists, you can upgrade a ROP +2 into it without it being DM fiat (or rather, the DM stopping you is DM fiat - the standard is that you're allowed). Adding abilities to turn the item into something that doesn't exist in the book, IS creating a custom item and the DM should explicitly allow it for it to be possible.

IMHO, of course.
