I do know you can split a full round action, so it seemed probable.
A ranged weapon that requires a standard action to reload could be fired once per round using this technique.
Both a full round action and a standard action occur on the characters turn only a 1 round action spans rounds and is subject to interruption as such. This would bring up complicated issues that are not covered in the rules as such I would discourage this as a precedent.
Could you give an example of what exactly you are trying to do.

Standard actions can be downgraded to move actions. Move actions cannot be upgraded to standard actions.
Spending 2 standard actions to duplicate a move and and a standard action is fine. And generally consider a loss of action efficiency.
Spending 2 move actions to create a extra standard is significant power gain.

BBT, Rapid Reload (appropriate firearm) is what you are looking for. That turns reloading from a stanjdard action to a move action for a one-handed firearm.
Or the alchemical cartridge, which would do the same when used on its own.
If used together, that would actually reduce the reload time to a free action, which is what you would want by the time you either take Rapid Shot or get iterative attacks....
