For a campaign I am currently running I want to make a wizard who is a follower of Nethys. I have most of the feats down and now I need him to be fleshed out personality wise.
I want him to have similar issues as his deity with the whole help the world/ destroy the world. Now the real question.
How do I role play this multi-personality character with out him coming off as a joke to the PCs. If he shifts personalities back and forth to his opposite one then my PCs will think of him as a joke, so how do I have him act to appear as a serious concern but also a possible boon.
the issue in my group is that they don't get really immersed into the game but a few of them do so I want help with him appearing as a real person and not some joke waiting to happen. Is there a way to make his personalities extremely discernible without it being overly dramatic, how would you run this if need be?

Well, off the top of my head, why not make him appear to be two NPCs instead of one?
Say, they get word from a good local wizard (NPC 1) that an evil wizard (NPC 2) is out to destroy the world. NPC 1 has a visible Nethys holy symbol on him.
When they confront the evil wizard, he's wearing a mask, and he runs away when he's defeated.
Have NPC 1 assist the party with very specific and useful information, and at the same time have NPC 2 always seem to be exactly aware of who the PCs are and when they are coming. They should begin to wonder how the two NPCs seem to be so well informed.
Then, after a defeat, have the evil wizard's mask crack and fall, revealing that he was NPC 1 all along.
Again, just off the top of my head, I hope the idea is of some use.

I like that lots. Putting it in my pocket for later.
The party may wonder why NPC 1 won't help them against NPC 2 directly - so make sure there's a reason available. A mask may not even be needed - NPC 1 may need the PCs to help him with his evil "twin" brother. Illusions may help to seal the deal.
Good luck with this. The reveal should be great.

Zahariel, that is a wonderful idea and would fit well with the campaign. He will of course have be extremely awesome in any way I can find yet still keeping him seperate. Thank you and considering this is so magic heavy nethys could actually be a popular deity so the religion savy ones won't suspect too much, and the others will lets it roll just fine. Once again, thank you.

I really want him to be a wizard, mostly because it seems fitting and the whole "worshipers: wizards" but also because it allows for him to be in a way following how nethys rose, through arcane power.
I also like the idea of purposely splitting his personality though I find it unfitting but possibly slightly workable. How does after beginning to follow nethys he finally let go of trying to control it and just accepted it?

I am devising a similar character, except mine begins life as a cleric because Nethys "cursed" him with being a divine spellcaster, just to mess with his plan of achieving power through the arcane. My PC has cognitive dissonance because he doesn't recognize the inherent conflict of Nethys and wants only to accumulate power and create things - the destroy aspect will come in much later.
