Controlled Lycanthropy

Homebrew and House Rules

I think paizo should make a prestige class that lets you control your Lycanthropy. Thoughts?

An afflicted lycanthrope can already change willingly. Are you referring to being able to suppress the automatic change during the full moon? Surely there's a better way to deal with it than a prestige class.

There are 3rd-party supplements galore for this sort of thing. I have a few of them for the sake of various options, pulling things from one for my own version.

Of course, making your own is also an option.

If you want a melee sort of lycanthropic character I suggest an invulnerable rager barbarian with the beast totem and animal fury. When you rage you go into your 'garou' form (to use the WoD term) -- I would suggest giving up greater rage for near unlimited use of beast form 2 to go into a single animal form to mimic the animal form wouldn't be amiss.

Otherwise you might need some weird druid dip to make it work.

I was looking over Abraham's suggestions, and it raised a question for me: Is animal fury's bite attack a secondary attack, even if you are using only natural weapons? It specifically calls out a "full attack" rather than saying "if you attack with manufactured weapons" or somesuch. I wonder if that is intentional.

Given how easy it is to gain primary bite attacks elsewhere, I'm inclined to say that it is worded poorly and functions as normal. Just wondering if there's a reason for that.

Back when Animal Fury was made, there wasn't anyway for the Barbarian to get more Natural Attacks(except multiclassing into Druid, but why would you take Animal Fury if you did?), so the only full-attack you could make was Weapon + Bite. Since Natural attacks become Secondary Attacks when used with weapons, the Rage Power was worded properly.

Also there's a shapechanger ranger archetype in APG, that is essentially based on Lycanthropy, at least fluff wise. But none of these or Abraham's suggestions are really the same thing.

A prestige class that actually works off of afflicted lycanthropy could really be fun and something unique.

If your character is chaotic evil, he could worship the demon lord Jezelda and take the Demoniac prestige class to become a natural lycanthrope. Other than that... it seems like Paizo wants lycanthropy to be a debilitating curse, not a way to become more powerful. It's unlikely that they'll make a way to easily control it.

But if you had to take level in a prestige class to control it I think that would be cool.

So do I, however there is still one problem. Different base-animal lycanthropes have different measures of power, which a single class would probably not be able to accomodate for properly.
