How should stench effect the scent ability?

OK...

so i have a player in my game who has the scent ability

those players will soon encounter Troglodytes.

how should the who interact?
By RAW there is no specific interaction but I think it makes sense that there would be some interaction (though I dont want to punish my player to much)

I will give the player the following benefit: its going to be basically impossible for the trogs to surprise the party because the scent player will notice the trog smell from 90 feet away.

and am considering the following penalties
1) instead of being effected by the stench within 30 feet the player will be effected by the stench at 45 feet instead of at 30

2) the save DC for the character gets a -2 on his save to resist the stench effect

3) no penalty the player used a feat to get scent and it should not have any penalties.

since 1 and 2 are relatively minor penalties I was going to use them but let me know if you think its just random and unnecessary.

I think Number 2 makes the best sense. I would go with that. I play half-orc's all the time with the keen scent feat (it grants scent) and I would totally understand that penalty happening to my character in that situation.

Another problem though. If your party is going through a Troglodyte cave, i bet the entire place smells like them. they should make a roll to sniff them out instead of impossible to sneak up on, but the penalty sounds good in addition

no. its not in their cave.

the BBEG basically hired the trogs to track down and kill the party in the middle of the night. the trog ranger can track down the party with no problem. but since people generally dont notice their own smell and since humans, elves and dwarves are not known for an especially keen nose the trogs didnt think to worry about it. thus the trogs will do their best to stealth but the players will be alerted that SOMETHING is coming and not be caught totally unaware.
