Scarab Sages

So I started a cleric in PFS, and she has the community and animal domains. I plan on taking the boon companion feat, but want to get the animal at the same time (4th level cleric, 5th level character). Thus i need 1 level of something else - whats a good choice to help create a killer support character? I was thinking bard? Other feat choices along the way are cool too (i have extra channel and selective channel)

Cleric, then just don't call the companion until 5th.

Seriously, the best thing you can add to a third level of cleric if you're concerned about support is another level of cleric.

If you are dropping a level on Bard, you might as well consider the Evangelist archetype. All the fun of Bardic Performance, none of the fuss. Otherwise... just don't take the familiar for a level? Honestly, there is very little reason to ditch a full casting class for something else just because you don't want the companion yet. Just avoid using the class feature for a level and you are in the exact same boat, but with better mechanical efficiency.

You're going to be a better support character staying as cleric; there's no 1 level splash that is particularly amazing for it. Call the companion as a scout for 4th-5th (think bird), then get boon companion @ 5 for your long-term companion. And I agree with the "Evangalist > Cleric + Bard".
