How to price this custom magic item?

Ok, so pricing custom magical items is not something I do often and I want to get it right. Can someone talk me through the process of pricing a wondrous item that acts as a CL16 Status spell- allowing the user to attune the item to five others as per the Status spell. I want it to be usable once a day.

Talk me through the process please? :)

Dungeon Ring (APG p292) is an item similar to what you are looking for.

How to price is in the Core rulebook page 550. A walkthrough for a continuous version (for comparison) versus a 1 charge per day at CL16 version:

Continuous would be priced at: (spell level*caster level*2000*continuous modifier) = 2*3*2000*1 = 12000gp

Once a Day would be priced at: (spell level*caster level*1800/(5/1)= 2*16*1800/(5/1) = 11520gp.

However, this is only part of the story. You then need to compare it to existing items of similar power (Dungeon Ring in this case) and adjust the cost accordingly. The reason for this is many spell based items are more or less useful (usually more) when made into a magic item.

Example of this: A ring of invisibility (command activated) is priced at 2*3*1800 = 10800gp. However it is priced in the Core Rulebook at 20,000gp because of the extreme use it has.

How I would price the Status item: I would up the price to 12500gp since it would not include the inability to remove the prisoner rings. I would also remove the ability to teleport to the subject for that price.

Lastly, I would keep it a ring not a wondrous item since the ring seems to be an appropriate slot for 'linked' items. However, bracelets would also be appropriate.

I would still charge 250 for the 'linked rings' and they would still take up a slot. However, at 1.5x (375) or 2x (500) cost (inexpensive) they can be merged with another item or take up no slot at all.

Your (and everyone else's) pricing may vary but this is my opinion on the custom pricing job.

Edit: fixed the 1/day caster level.
