Keep in mind: most Level 1 wands are expecting you to get about 15gp worth of effect from each charge. So, if 15gp = 1d4+1 damage, or 1 round of invisibility, or the like, each time you increase the output or duration, you're increasing the efficiency.
Not to mention, self-crafting with Arcane Builder & Hedge Magician means you can turn out wands SUPER quick, and at only 45% of market price. That 750gp Magic Missile I wand now costs only 337.5 gp, a day of your time, and yields 50 shots of 5d4+5, or only 6.75gp / shot (1.35 / 1d4+1 in this case - an order of magnitude cheaper than standard cost).
