The Great Enchanter

Well, a number of things to post about so here goes:

STAVO: Excellent back story for Xulgag! I really enjoyed it. I liked how you worked Ragnar and you together in the classic bar fight scenario. Was a lot of fun to read. I like our characters and how they are coming together. It should make for some memorable adventures to say the least.

PINVENDOR: I like your spoiler option for telling the story and we select the one that is appropriate. That's a pretty smart idea. I'd have used it myself had I thought of it.

Also:

Quote:
I also picture some bolt hole where perhaps Corinne has squirreled away objects of interest or perhaps treasures not easily fenced that she could either use if she ever decided to leave on an adventure or sell in a pinch. Her "IRA" as it were.

Yes, I like that idea a lot. That reminds me of Durzo Blint and the various stashes he had throughout the city. I don't really see that Corinne is very greedy or money hungry, but she is a survivor and she does want to be prepared for the many futures she sometimes sees. I like the idea that she has one or two dedicated bolt holes than she extracts gear and equipment from when it comes time for her to embark on her adventure with Arielle and the others.

And yes, I'm excited as well. You've always had a lot of enthusiasm, and I've often felt your wild imagination needs a more accepting world than Warhammer. Things in Warhammer can be pretty limiting, but in a world like this anything is possible. I look forward to the unique challenges and descriptions and I'm ready to roleplay up a storm!

All that being said, I'm REALLY busy with work and renovating our house. But I need to learn these rules. The PDF is just sitting here on my PC. I don't know that I have the time to pick through it until I print it out and that won't happen for another couple weeks (printer not setup until the room is done).

And so--

ODV: Can you set aside any time to meet up and spend an hour or two to go over the basics of the rules with me? That would help a lot. Dice rolls, character creation and other important stuff? Let me know!

@Drachenfels:

Off-topic completely:
Have you checked out Patrick Rothfuss? Two books in a trilogy released so far, Name of the Wind and Wise Man's Fear. Read them with my hearty recommendation.

@Drachenfels again: Did you see the PM?

Excellent to see some more excitement!! Hopefully I will be able to control myself and not "over-post" you guys to death with too much detail, lol.

The Great Enchanter

I have Name of the Wind but haven't had the chance to read it yet. I hear it's very good! And yes, saw your PM and responded. Catching up on stuff now. Been sleeping all day, and heading back to bed soon to get ready for a crazy Friday night at the Den of Slannesh!

And I don't think over-posting will be a problem. I can respond pretty quickly to things when I get rolling.

Also have started reading Name of the Wind on my iPad haha. Got the sample, haven't picked it up yet, been meaning too.

Also, Drach I totally can. I actually have spring break from work the next week so I'll be pretty damn open. Just shoot me a text and we can character gen and go over basic rolls. I'm not an expert myself but I did used to play 3rd edition D&D when I was something around 13.

The Great Enchanter

Ok, cool that sounds good. I have Sun, Mon and Tuesday off. Monday I play Warhammer with my friend Chris, though we may put it off one more week since the house is in total disrepair. We'll see. I'll shoot you a text in the next day or two. Thanks for your help :)

Is there anything you would like to add to give your path purpose?

I honestly haven't thought up anything. He's more or less just wandering till he finds his purpose. He grew up in the monastery and never faced the challenges an adventurer would have or even a normal half orc. I think that's more of what he's looking for are new ways to be challenged and tested. I like the ideas of other monks to challenge him as he continues on his journey. Perhaps whenever he passes by another monk of Irori they agree to spar.

I don't feel like it's short changing my character to say that he has no real goals. He wanders to find the next challenge and learn the next lesson, why can't that be enough?

Ephemeral GameMaster

Nothing is wrong with it. It just means I don't have as much to add to the story that would be specifically enticing to your character is all. I was merely making suggestions in case you thought it might be fun to include an element that would be appealing to your PC. If he is satisfied in the challenges of living a non-monastery life, I guarantee he will love what is in store for Ulthred. :-)

I'm really excited to get this going, I've been watching tons of kung fu movies in anticipation. I think the smaller group will help keep focus on our characters that when we do hit points we can deviate it won't feel railroaded or anything like that. I think we'll actually welcome more character development. Let's just wait and see maybe something will come up that's might be something we hadn't thought of and we can side track then.

I really like our core group of players here. Things kind of spun out of control in our Warhammer game. I think between the four of us we'll be able to come up with something really evolved and fun.

I also like the fact that this adventure is a giant sand box as Pinvendor mentioned. There are so many different ways this can go! And being it isn't set in the Warhammer universe, we can actually win! Go figure, haha. Take that and choke on it, Chaos Gods! :)

Ephemeral GameMaster

Okay, troops I think I have read enough to get started. I will be rolling up Arielle's and Ragnar's ranger hireling's (a halfling) stats and assigning their spells. From there I will get the starting post up ready for you to rock...unless anyone needs more time or has questions? I know Drachenfels has been ridic busy.

Speaking of Drachenfels, you sir will be seeing a very detailed spoiler included in the first post regarding Corinne's meeting with Arielle. I was going to do a PM, but I decided this much creative goodness is just too great to hide from our fellow gamers. I leave it to your discretion if you wish to share the great back and forth we have already had on the subject of your interest in the young girl.

So the setup for the first post is this. Ragnar (or are you going by Ulthred?) and Xulgag are traveling west on the road from Restov. Corinne and Arielle are also on the road also heading west and are by a strange twist of fate only a few miles ahead. Of course things aren't necessarily as simple as that, lol. But I wanted you to know where are for my initial story intro in case any of you want to do any roleplay prior to that. Just post it as a quote from Rewind the Flashback Fairy, heh.

Ephemeral GameMaster

I know, I know. You're shocked I posted on a weekend. That's how excited I am. Spent a good portion of the day reviewing your class features and the combat rules. And holy crap! This AP is going to take forever! This first module alone will be like MONTHS, lol. I really hope you guys make it. I would really like to see this all the way through. We're going to have such a good time with this.

The Great Enchanter

I'm going to try to connect with ODV on Monday or Tuesday to sit down for a couple hours and learn the rules. I may still need some hand holding/help for awhile, but I'm a fast learner and soon enough I'll be a Pathfinder pro.

Looking forward to starting our story :)

Monday I have an advising appt and class so it'd have to be the mornin, I'm not sure what yer schedules like, or Tuesday.

Ragnar is Ragnar. The UTHRED thing was a possibility but the way we ended up having the backstory it would be unnecessary. Maybe if we ever venture closer to the Linnorm kingdoms

The Great Enchanter

Tuesday in the afternoon would work for me if that's good for you?

PERF

Yeah my bad on the Uthred thing, I wasn't sure and didn't bother to ask I can easily just edit it real quick to stop the confusion. Didn't mean to pull a Grant Morrisson.

Oh, and one thing during character creation, on your 1st level take your class' max HP from your Hit Die. Just for kicks I rolled even though I knew I was going to do this, and Arielle got 2HP. Lol.

Before we actually start, I do want to see everyone's stuff. If you email or FB me a copy of your Character sheet, or document it in the character bio, that would make me very happy.

The Great Enchanter

Will do. I'll be sure to send you all the info you might need once Cody and I managed to pen her on paper.

I'll probably need a few play test posts to get up to speed right before we get going, ie: different scenario's where I can test the rules without risk.

After that I'm ready to steal the stolen lands back!

Just so I'm clear on skills: you can only have a rank equal to your level. Is this correct? And do you get +3 to every class skill you have a rank in? I've read the rules and I think this is correct I just want to varify cuz it seems kind of ridiculous that I'd have +8 to my perception starting out (+4 wis +1 rank +3 trained class skill)

Ephemeral GameMaster

Unless I am misreading your question, you are right and +8 is awesome. Nice!

Ephemeral GameMaster

As far as play testing, we can do a couple here in the discussion. Tell me what things you want to see, and I will try to walk through them.

Ephemeral GameMaster

@Drachenfels: Where is Corinne from? And in what city would you like to have met Arielle? My initial thought is the pair is from a city in Brevoy, but the exact location of Arielle's...um, appearance is irrelevant, so I would rather have you tell me where Corinne is from and what part of the world Corinne is physically located when she meets the little girl.

Ephemeral GameMaster

Okay, more character creation updates. I want to give you guys some free traits which are available from the Kingmaker PG and also the APG. I will rely on ODV to assist you, Drachenfels, with the info since I do not believe you own the APG. I will allow you to each choose either (1)one trait from the Kingmaker PG and one trait from the APG if your character is from Brevoy area, or (2)two free traits from APG if you're non-native to the region.

I have also been thinking how I can reward you for super roleplay when for the most part XP is reliant on monster defeats and quest completions. I have decided I am going to give you what I am going to call "Roleplay Credits" or RCs. You can use these to buy additional skill ranks, feats, ability scores, or increases to special abilities such as a monk's ki pool or spells per day before fatigue, etc. You can also cash them in for re-rolls or a bunch for a "Fate Point" type avoidance of death.

I will draw up a chart for the rewards, and expect some of them to be steep. For example, I am thinking 50 RCs would be appropriate for an ability score increase considering how powerful that is. But this way you can still be rewarded for doing things other than just killing monsters.

The structure of this adventure is the most MMO quest/Skyrim-esque module I have ever seen. As you explore the area of the Stolen Lands, you should take a note or two on the kinds of landmarks or possible "significant" things you come across in each hex area. You may find them to be of importance to quests or information you receive later. There is no linear path here as stated before, so what things you find out about the area will be determined by exactly how you choose to explore. It also allows for a lot of latitude for what I can include.

If any of you have anything you would like me to add that would be of interest to your character such as locating the ruins of a lost dwarven stronghold or religious temple or an NPC who comes looking for your PC to deliver news, fight you, whatever, feel free to send me a PM and I will work it in.

Ephemeral GameMaster

It is also come to my attention that there is a downloadable web enhancement available under your "My Downloads" at the top of the page adding some Character Traits. I am not sure if these are reprints of what is in the APG or not, but they are also available for you to use if they are different.
