So, I'm pre-planning for my group, and eventually I'm really liking the idea of having our own permanent demiplane as our base of operations. I'm curious, how do other people travel there. It says certain spells work, but do they just say "CharacterX's plane" when using the spells? Do they have to know it's name, do they have to do some kind of research? Wondering for security issues. Since the spell doesn't make you aware when someone enters your plane, I'm curious as to ways of securing it.

There is also the "Portal" feature of Create Demiplane, Greater. This is a much easier solution for a stationary party. Or you can just teleport back to the portal every time you want to use it. Its a much lower level spell to cast so this might be a more economical route at lower levels. Just make sure to secure the portal well.
Doesn't plane shift require you to be familiar with the destination?
When you finish casting this spell, you may bring yourself and up to seven other creatures to the plane automatically by joining hands in a circle. The demiplane is another plane of existence, and therefore is outside the range of any spell or ability that cannot affect or reach other planes. Creatures can only enter the plane by the use of planar travel magic such as astral projection, etherealness, or plane shift. You are considered “very familiar” with your entire demiplane.

Yeah, I'm not worried about my group. Like I said, I'm worried about securing it. My party is an evil one, and one day will have to worry about pesky adventurers. So, anyone with a tuning fork and a spell can find my plane? For plane shift, it says you can teleport to any plane, but a specific spot ON that plane is impossible. You arrive 5 - 500 miles from the spot. I really don't think there's an official rule for this, so maybe I should've asked in advice for plans on securing against unwanted intrusions.

First off, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who read about Create Demiplane and instantly thought, "Aww yeah! Best home ever!"
As for teleporting to it... either a portal or Plane Shift. You can make copies of your plane's focus (that metal rod) and give one to each party member, or just have the one focus so it's harder for your enemies to get ahold of it.
I think you can get to any plane from the Astral Plane, but I have to double-check that. Plus, I know that getting to a small demiplane with no other intra-planar connections is way harder to do than going to a well-known plane. So your enemies could go searching the Astral Plane for a way in, but they'd have a hard time finding it.

It has to be the right tuning fork. Each plane has it's own tuning frquency and it's a matter of matching the right one to get there.

It's a specially tuned fork, designed for entry into your plane only. Any caster that regularly uses plane shift needs a fat pile of these darn things; one for each plane.
When I said I use the tuning fork like a key, I meant that literally. Someone would need to get a copy of one of your forks, or spend some legend-lore action and research to make a reasonable copy.
Just getting a copy of your planar focus could be an adventure all on its own.
Remember to design your lair with the weakest stuff up front, and in encounter-sized parcels!
