So the spell gives a +1 to attack and damage for every three caster levels. Does this mean that this spell gives a +1 to attack and damage until you reach 6th level?
Yeah. At 6th level the bonus is +2.

need a summary table.
+1 for the first 5 levels,
then +2 for the next three,
then +3 for the next three
....is ruddy ugly

1-5 is +1
6-8 is +2
they should really say something similar to scorching ray where its 1 thing at 4th, another at 7th etc

The spell grants the subject a +2 deflection bonus to AC, with an additional +1 to the bonus for every six levels you have (maximum +5 deflection bonus at 18th level).
1st is +2
6th is +3
12th is +4
very inelegant....i guess the issue is you need something when you get it, even though the maths/division doesnt quite fit.
