Does anyone know how to add umlauts to a letter using the (USA) standard keyboard with English as the language?
Depends on the OS. On Mac OSX if you old the Option(alt) key and press you U you can then type the next letter to place umlauts on it.
option + u, then a = ä
For Windows you either need to create your own shortcut or use the ALT character codes
