Create Magic Item or Magic Trap

Rules Questions

Regarding the creation of magical items...

If a player is creating a magical trap as part of an item (example: a trapped ring), does that item qualify as a magic item for creation purposes?

If it is created like a Magic Item:_____________________
FeatReq: Forge Ring
Skill: Spellcraft

Cost | SpL | CsL* | GP | Description
240,000 = 8 x Wz/15 x 2,000 | Use-Activation

Creation Cost= 240,000/2 = 120,000 gp
Creation Time= 960 hrs | 120 Days @ 8hr/day
Market Price= 240,550gp {240,000 + (100gp x 0.5**) + 500gp Ring}

*Lowest Caster Level
**If material component cost is negligible, I use 0.5 as the multiplier.

If it is created like a Magic Trap:__________________________
Skill: Craft (Trap)

Spell Horrid Wilting

60,000 = 8 x Wz/15 x 1,000 | Automatically Resets

[/b]Creation Cost[/b]= 30,000 gp
Creation Time= 240hrs | 30 Days @ 8 hr/day
Market Price= 60,550 gp {60,000 + (100gp x 0.5**) + 500gp Ring}

*Lowest Caster Level
**If material component cost is negligible, I use 0.5 as the multiplier.

Obviously, a trap is quicker and cheaper; however, the ring will be a magic item. While it is intended as a trap, I'm not sure which creation method would be fair to use. So Trap or Magic Item?

There is a general non convenience of transport and setup built in to the traps I can think of, if they can be transported at all. This ring more closely resembles several of the pre-existing "cursed" items than a trap. Without other information and based on that as a GM I would use the magic item creation rules forge ring.
If it was location specific then I would use the trap rules.

Reminds me of the old "Trap of Prestidigitation" (it's a shower!) and "Trap of Cure Light Wounds" discussions.

Magic Item.

Traps are generally built into someting and generally immobile (which limits them hence the price difference). Whereas anything easily mobile is an item, regardless of if it's boon or bane.
