San Francisco?

I've wanted to go to a PFS event for a while, and I'm excited to see a Lieutenant for San Francisco. Does this mean that there will be Bay Area Pathfinder Society games that actually happen in SF? It makes me sad that all of the BAPS games are held 20-30 minutes, minimum, from the City by the Bay.

Well, when you see San Francisco on a title, it really means all of Northern California. For example, I live and game in Fresno, 180 miles south of San Fran. Mike appointed me to help with the Central Valley.

You are right that it is rather disappointing there aren't public, open games in San Fran itself. However, Endgame in Oakland is a quick BART ride away and I know that several folks who game there come from San Francisco.

Part of the problem is simply finding a venue to play. Offhand, Gamescape is the only gaming shop I can think of in the city itself. I know space is limited there, but perhaps we need to see if a regular thing can be set up.

If we can find a venue willing, I'm pretty sure there are enough players.

In the meantime, Bay Area Pathfinders contains a list of all northern California venues and play times.

Finding viable play space in San Fransisco retail locations is next to impossible! The rent is so high that store owners can't afford to sacrifice space from product displays.

We're searching for other venue options (i.e: Books store, library, etc) for the future. For now, you'll need to travel across the bay.
Closest to you, we have two stores in Oakland running PFS weekly>

Endgame on Monday nights &
Its Your Move Games on Wednesday.

Live to Game.
Game to Live.

If you work in the South Bay Area, Legends in Cupertino and GameKastle in Santa Clara run games on a regular basis.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I did check out the BAPS website before I posted, but I hoped there might be news. I don't know how other SF denizens feel, but I feel like there's a psychological block that makes it feel easier to go to Paizocon than Oakland. It's so far across the Big Water. Still, I hope to make it out there, one of these days.

I hope the SF situation changes, and as long as you post to the BAPS website (or mention it on the excellent podcast), I'll hear about it.

Tell you what Doram...

If you make the effort to come out to our Grand Lodge (Concord-Tuesday Nights) for a game, I'll make certain you're on my table!

Hello my fello Pathfinders,

A new still wet behind the ears player found you at Kubla, and now I look forward to finding a local non-once-a-yearly-event play group.

I do understand this thread is a few years old, but hey.. we have Necromancers, right?

Looking forward to Endgame this upcoming Monday night. I'll be the new guy buying one round of ale.

There is also Ronin Games in Castro Valley on Wednesdays if you want an alternative to the Oakland location.

Thanks for the heads up Cao Phen,

Castro Valley is not too far to goto on an evening. Benefit of being new is not knowing one group over the other.

OK now that I have two options for game locations, I suppose it's time I start settling in on an actual character decision. Can't stay with my pre-gen forever.

After that I guess it would make sense to figure which faction I'll lend my blade, spells, talents, skills, arrows, etc etc.. to

Heyo. Im going to be touristing arouns San Francisco. What rpg shops should I be looking to whilst in San Fran?

Welcome to the Bay Matthew,

I wish you high rolls on your saving throws of Sourdough chowder bowl vs Seagull theft if you try one near Fishermans Warf. :)

-PS don't miss out on the Garlic fries either.

Although new to Pathfinder ( I just took the plunge at Kubla Con May 23-26 ) from other RPG games, and table top mini's I can pretty confidently say:

San Francisco itself only really has one shop. Gamescape located on Divisadero. It's a smaller store, but they have decent staff, product range, and tables in the back.

Just across the bay bridge via rental car, ferry, bus, or BART ( a light rail service ) you have two much better options in my opinion. Endgame located next to the downtown Oakland convention center, and Games of Berkley on Shattuck.

Both are right next to BART stations, major bus lines, and parking. You can see all three and get info from Bay area Pathfinder Society linked earlier in this thread.

BART? Why does Fox/Simpsons not sue their asses off? :)

Was looking up Endgame earlier. Its on my list of things to do!

Bay Area Rapid Transit but yes I have always made that connect too.

Well, BART predates the Simpsons by about 17 years.

If you do make the trip from San Fran to Oakland via BART, rest assured that your are riding at high speeds below the Bay on a train (and through tunnels) that were built 42 years ago.

Monday: endgame
Tuesday: eudemonia (Berkeley)
Wednesday: ronin games (Castro valley)
Friday: games of Berkeley (um... Berkeley)

Ronin games is probably the best in the area - always has lots of good tables running, and most of us get pie together afterwards.

As some one who works in the event industry in San Francisco, even the cost of simply renting a venue to play a single event is staggering. My best suggestion is to take Bart to Endgame in Oakland or Black Diamond Games in Concord. The commute is not fun but that's the sad reality of living and working in SF.

SIREN! You will not tempt me with your suggestion of pie!

Mmmm, pie...

You can BART to Eudo - you can't BART to black diamond.

I've taken BART to Black Diamond, the transfer sucked, but the walk on the other end was quite reasonable.
