I have it, though I haven't installed it yet (I preordered, but I'm not done with Heroes VI for the time). I'll probably start playing next week.
And, of course, I have it for PC. It's a shooter.

Well, its better than COD or BC2.
Less brainwork than 2142 (which is sad), but so far one of the better shooters out there.
Still has some issues (spotting causes you to zoom out of aim, bi-pod auto deploy or deploy so you are looking at at your cover instead of downrange, commo rose sucks, etc).
Hopefully they work out some of these bugs soon.
Yeah, some of those bugs are awful - but right before I started to play BF3 I played Heroes VI, which kinda inoculated me to lesser bugs.
And I miss some of the commands, like "give me a ride" and "orders, sir?"
But other than that, it's a great game. I (mostly) like how they mixed the kits around (but then, my first Battlefield was 2142, so I'm used to assault soldiers being medics). The only thing that takes some getting used to is that explosives are now for support, not for recon.
And I think some guys are making deals with the devil to be able to fly that well.
And (and this is the final "and") what I'd like as the thematic expansion (like Bad Company got Vietnam) would be 2142, i.e. the futuristic expansion. I want to get me some nice laser weapons and battle walkers and fight on Titans again!

2142 was really a fantastic game - interesting to see that so many played it.
For me, the game is incredible fun. I have a good group of guys that I play with (www.unknown-warriors.com), and of course that makes all the difference.
That said, I am among the thousands who are experiencing serious technical issues with the game. My system slays the optimal requirements, my drivers are all current - everything from chipset to video card - and I freeze a fair amount in-game and I freeze after most maps are done. It's incredibly frustrating. I should be roughly level 13 and I'm stuck around 9. I have spent endless hours trying to get things to work consistently, and I'm not a dumb guy - there are issues with the code. I've been away at work all week, though, so who knows what they might have done. I really need a client-side patch, the server-side patching that they've done has had minimal effect.

I also have problems - but I'm not sure they're game-related or due to the graphics card. I get the short freeze followed by a total blackout followed by the "graphics driver was messed up and had to be rebooted" message. I get that a lot since I have this graphics card, and apparently lots and lots of people have it.
I let myself be talked into getting an nVidia after having Ati cards and regretted it. I don't think I'll get another.
The game does freeze in other ways, too. It's probably a cocktail of game and graphics card.

I was a 2142 fanatic, I'm actually ranked 3rd in the world (2nd in the US) with the Ganz HMG support weapon. I would love to see a 2143 frostbite version of the game.

I have a nVidia 570gtx and don't have major problems with the game. I do hear that people running chrome or firefox (I use the latter) have less problems than loading up the game via explorer.
So for me BF3 works ok for me for the most part. I do get some white and green flashes at random points throughout the game, also I have had a few freeze/then death situations occur. Also a key "lockout" - I can hit enter to deploy, but the cursor does not let me change kits, squads, etc.
The thing that bothers me the most is the total blackouts when I am going to spawn or when I am being revived. It isn't so much the blackout but the game seems to "stall" in-between spawns.
I don't know, I really hope they fix the stupid spotting and bi-pod issues…and of course all the connectivity issues. At least when my game locks up I don't need to reboot (in some cases with BC2).
