Just wanted to make an AAAARRRRGGGHH! post upon my discovery that the musketeer option for cavaliers (as seen here) is not allowed in PFS play.
I'd happened across the archetype by accident the other day, and it inspired me to immediately make one and race to my nearest PFS game.
Sure engouh, the musketeer is specifically barred from Society play, so I needed to come make a frowny face to the only people I know who might sympathize.

Yeah it sucks when you get a great idea and build the character only to realize that certain parts aren't legal. Keep the character though for a future home game. I just built a Ranger character I didn't think to check legality on until afterwards. I got lucky though.

If it's from Ultimate Combat, and not for fighters or monks, definately double check. Alot of Ultimate Combat isn't PFS legal, especially where it comes to guns. Namely, if it isn't a gunslinger and it uses guns, it isn't legal.

As far as I can tell, I can get (mostly) the same effect by making a 1st level gunslinger and then levelling as a cavalier for the rest of his life, so it's not a total write-off.
The only thing I'd really be missing out on is that I'd have to spend three adventures on foot and in light armor.
But this archetype immediately made me look at my pistolier Warhammer minis. It's a character I *need* to play.

Well, there is always the guntank archetype for heavy armor at level one, or you could go cavalier and then gunslinger at second.

that work a little, but never fear for gun slingers get most of their awesome abilities by 5th level(adding dex to gun damage comes to mind), gunslinger 5 cavalier X should be fine... apart from the weaker mount

Just to save you some future pain; that guy on the clockwork horse?
He's probably not legal, either.;)

See, that's why he'd also have a level in Summoner and have a clockwork horse for an eidolon.

What? They're making cool empire minis now? When did hell freeze over?

They did miss Arcane Bonds, however. You can't play a Spellslinger, but you CAN play a wizard (or arcane bloodline sorcerer) with a free, masterwork firearm. Just have to wait until you have +1BAB before you can take the Exotic Weapon Proficency to make full use of it.. :D

Or go halfelf, snag ancestral arms, and you can use it at lvl one.

I don't know if receiving a free weapon gets around that, but I wouldn't be surprised if Paizo changes it to 'may not receive a gun from any source without the Gunsmithing feat'. Just a heads up.

I find myself a little confused, i just looked at the addditional resources page here and i can not see anywhere that is not allowed, if someone can please point me to where it says it is not allowed, it would be greatly appreciated.
My gunslinger concept was a muskeeter and i would love to play him in PFS so just getting some clarifiaction

A musket is legal for play. While the archtype is not, you can still make a cavalier with a musket. Only the metal cartridge and advanced firearms are illegal. A character still needs the Gunsmithing feat to purchase one though.
From Ultimate Combat Additional Resources:
"Equipment: Advanced firearms on Table 3–5 are not permitted in Pathfinder Society Organized Play. No character may purchase a firearm unless he possesses the Gunsmithing feat. All ammunition except metal cartridges may be purchased in Pathfinder Society Organized Play."
