hmmm, the fan in my notebook appeared to die in a very convincing manner in the library yesterday. kind of embarrassing actually. but it seems to be ok today... so i think i'm back.
note: I still have a wand of fire arrow maybe Mal can use once he's not buried.
also, I'm down a player or two in my Zolurket PbP here on the boards. and we're just about to actually hit the eponymous dungeon itself.
Anyone interested?
We currently have an elf alchemist (crypt breaker), elf wizard (trans) who've been around since the beginning.
Our new dwarf cleric and barbar are missing
at level 3.

Above is the basic information. it's located in western Katapesh. a pair of dwarven prospectors have hired the party to clear the upper levels of gnolls, bandits, and spooks.
Balodek, I saw that you are in VoVs campaign. He's playing in mine. he got the jump on me in starting his game first and seems to have got the more reliable players :P (my two elves excepted)

Let me think on it, this week has been crazy busy so I need to think up a concept and decide if I can honestly commit before applying. I assume the basic character creation is in the recruitment thread.

Hey all, congrats on 1 year of continuous play! =) With nearly 4,000 posts total and 2 1/3 of the adventure path completed, the success and consistency of this PbP has far exceeded my expectations, and I want to thank you guys for the great campaign so far!
That said, starting tomorrow I'll be hitting the road for about 3 weeks. Atteding the aforementioned wedding, and then visiting family across the country. I'll still have internet access, but my ability to post big updates may be limited. I don't want to half-ass it, so once the current scene is wrapped up, I'm going to hit the PAUSE button until I get back.

Maeve Haela |

Guys, I think I need to stop here before I actually give Maeve's reply. There's a lot going on under the hood here and part of why I was trying to have Maeve retreat is that I really preferred to have her hash it out away from the party (but in the OOC open) so it could be dealt with in a few more stages than trying to get Maeve to be coherent about this when she's pretty much one step up from a gibbering berserk rage.
I think I've said it before, but I'd like to bring it up again. I'm not really playing Maeve as a rational, head-on-straight adult. Yeah, obvious, but I really think it needs to be reiterated right about now, because it seems like that's the expectation and I just want to make it clear. She's actually trying to improve, mind, but it's not going to be an overnight process and it really only started back in Kalsgrad after the fight with Kimandatsu.
Second, you have probably noted that the girl's got some very odd ideas on the appropriate use of violence. She mentioned once, way back when, how she'd trained with weapons but ultimately didn't like them. That's not exactly true. She's got a level of self-awareness when she's calm enough to think. And in this case she came to the conclusion that she actually isn't responsible enough to have one she can hurt someone with. I suspect there may be some very interesting discussions once they reach Minkai about this.
And then there's the fact that this concerns the treatment of a possessed individual. There's actually been a case of this in the campaign already, and it affected Maeve pretty hard then too. It also provoked thoughts about what possession is like back then, so to see it now pretty much primed Maeve to put an actual plan into action that Heng helpfully set up without needing to be told.
And then Parity decided he was going to try to kill the sucker anyway.
To Maeve, this is such an act of obvious cruelty and depravity that she's downright shocked that everybody else doesn't see it as being, well, how she sees it, the attempted murder of a helpless victim. Yes, his body was being used as a weapon to try to kill them. If there had been no other choice it might have been acceptable to kill him, but there were other choices available.
.....I think that's enough to discuss. There's actually even more, but I think we can save it for a bit later.

No worries. Stalk off if you like, Heng has long ago resigned himself to the fact he is the sole voice of reason in a CG cuckoo land :)
aside from Harlan, he's a reliable little guy if a bit food obsessed.
Seems to me Tunuak was more a possessor than possessee though. is this more of maeve's skewed logic?
I like this little vignette though. Heng was really hacked up by the possessed axeman and then very frustrated by being unable to deal with Mr Evil Windbag. He's struggling to keep a lid on it as well.
OOC I do think we need to come up with some battle plans though. It's going to really start hurting us that we don't have a full on caster for artillery and battle field controller or whatever you call it. We are seeing a number of flying foes incl. potential dragon coming up and only Parity can engage.

I wasn't referring to Tuanak, but the possessed warrior guarding the tunnel. She basically had enough of a lid on things to keep her immediate, furious anger directed right at the quasit when it tried to run off, but now there isn't a valid target. (By my read, from when she identified the posessed man to the end of combat was still under two minutes.) Which is why she kept right on charging even though that wasn't bright.
Remember, folks, Maeve's unpredictable and a little crazy, but she's not random. There's always a motive if you can figure it out.
As for tactics....well, yes. I think we need to pool our resources and get another method of flying, since it's far too late to retool someone for ranged combat. Mal's going to need to be more willing to go to ranged spell combat in the future as well - once he did we had far fewer problems.
I'm not sure how Maeve's going to be able to contribute if she doesn't get ahold of some more wands (when she levels I was already planning on taking more ranks of UMD to make the one she's got more reliable, but if everything's going to just cast Resist Fire type spells that shuts her right back down again.)

And as I look back on the most recent encounter, nothing about it was going to be easy. I read through it a few times before you got there, but only until it was in play did I add up the difficulties presented by 1) 3-D arena, 2) slippery/difficult surfaces, 3) flying enemy spellcaster with prepared defenses vs ranged weapons (wind barrier, prot vs fire, etc).
That being said, the opening salvo was harsh, but once you got on him, he spent the last 3-5 rounds in defensive maneuvering. The poor saves vs the glitterdust was a huge boon on your part!
