I'm sure the posting will come up soon. One's nearly dead and then we'll be back to continuing with the kingmaker turns shortly.

Not sure if you want to split this as we normally would or if we're paying the archers for anything (although that may be accounted for during the upkeep phase).

Carina Stigard |

Nice - thanks Ganit. I was thinking about paying the archers/kobolds. Probably the "pay" for the archers will be included in a celebration of some sort which we will probably hold next month as part of the nation actions.

DM Aron Marczylo |

very slowly. My tonsoles are inflamed so I spend my of my time swallowing air.

Bronwyn Greenwood |

DM Aron, Alexander or anyone reading, could you shed some light on this matter?
If we build a Shrine, it produces one minor magic item. Then at the end of the month the kingdom can attempt to sell it. It's a DC 20 Economy check, and if successful it generates 2 BP.
Is that right?

DM Aron Marczylo |

if you can make the DC 20 Eco check and none of you want to hold onto the item then yes. You get 2 BP for minor items, 8 BP for moderate and 15 BP for major, but the DCs for these are highter too as pointed out here.
Edit: Afterall, looking at the random minor items that coould be rolled up it can be anything from a potion, scroll, minor wonderous item, magic armour, magic shield, magic weapon, wand or ring.
Who knows, I might end up rolling a decent ring of protection you might want or amulet of natural armour. Maybe even a belt of dexterity, it all depends on the dice roll, however I'm sure the majority of you would just wish to sell the item no matter what it is. You get to choose when you sell it if you wish or buy it for yourself.

Carina Stigard |

Ok - then post away Bron as you seem to have the whole month thing well laid out. If you want someone else to post the actual rolls, that is fine.
This month we build a shrine. I think we should keep building the kingdom to at least size 21 so that we get the double bonus (Econ + Stability or Loyalty) from Bron and me.

As a note on the Month 11 post:
Month 11 OOC
Upkeep Phase
2. Claim Hexes: Claim 2 hexes ("Forgotten Cache" and the unnamed grasslands northeast of the Trap-Filled Glade) (Spend 2 BP, increase Size to 13, increase Control DC to 33, increase Consumption to 2.)
As a note, I do not think that we can claim that hex as it is actually part of Restov. I am putting the farm in the "Forgotten Cache" hill hex we just claimed, so it will actually cost an extra 2 BP to build. Also, I claimed the forest hex two west of Olegs. In month 12 we can claim two of the grassland hexes to the west and build roads to them. By going through the forest, it will open the 5 grassland hexes which should give us enough food production for a while. It will also get us to 18 hexes in 2.5 months. We then can claim the bandit camp and the temple hexes which will make Jhod happy. By claiming one more hex in Month 14 I think, we will be at 21 which as noted above will allow the Bron/Carina bonus to affect two nation attributes.

DM Aron Marczylo |

The only area that is part of Restov is north of Oleg's. All on the map is for your picking. You'll be allowed to go further south allowing you to map new areas to possibly aquire new resources, kill more monsters and become more popular.

DM Aron Marczylo |

no, can't claim half-a-hex, I believe I stated that before.

Carina Stigard |

Sounds right, I will add the road through the forest to the map then.
I will post updated maps as soon as I have the Month 12 stuff. I imagine we need two celebrations, or one big one. One celebrating our first year as a nation and a second celebrating the victory over the Wyverns. This may not be the most important things to do from an efficiency point of view, but seems right for role playing.

Bronwyn Greenwood |

Guys, I think we have a couple options at this point:
1) We continue on the present course. That means accumulating BP to build the Waterfront. We'll have to stop any and all progress to achieve that, since our Loyalty and Stability scores are already far behind the checks' DCs.
Pros: The Waterfront is a BIG building and provides a lot of benefits (specially the Medium item).
Cons: We'll have to wait 5 to 6 months in complete stagnation. Also, the Waterfront provides a Major item we would have a hard time selling.
2) We expand until we reach size 21. At that point we'll oficially be a Duchy, and as Bron and Carina assume the titles we'll apply our Charisma bonuses on a second stat. I would actually suggest we expand until 25 to round out the area and get to build a lot more stuff per month.
Pros: It's a more organic, slow expansion instead of a major bump like #1. It would allow us to have a lot of smaller buildings and probably even restore the old Temple of Erastil.
Cons: We'd have to spend the BP accumulated to make a lot of buildings that offer Stability and Loyalty to make up for the incresing DC.

Carina Stigard |

Bron - your map seems to be off by 1 hex one the west side. There should be one more row of hexes. I think you have lost one Grassland hex NW-W from the Frog Pond, and a forest hex 2 below that. Other than that, your map is much nicer than mine.
Thinking forward. Lets get 2 hexes in Month 12 due west of the forest we got in Month 11. The next month, lets take the Bandit Camp and the Temple. We can then acquire the Temple as a free building if we make a city on that hex.
Also, while I like a shrine, I think that the Monument to celebrate our battle would be good this turn and is relatively inexpensive.
Gotta do some stuff, will try to think this through more later.

Bronwyn Greenwood |

Ouch, that was brutal, but I managed to correct the map. New version, click here.
So, my plan is: We expand to the west, getting two grasslands hexes and starting farms on them (and build a Shrine at Evergreen). We would offer Bokken to maintain an Herbalist shop at Oleg's to encourage trade and build it there.
Next month we take two forest hexes (the Thorn River Camp and the Temple of the Elk) and begin the process of preparing the land around the temple for a city (that will take two months). Then it's hoarding BP to restore the temple as soon as possible :)

DM Aron Marczylo |

If you build a city there, it halves the cost of a temple.
Text from book:
"Temple of the Elk:" Although the Temple of the Elk is partially ruined, building a city here gives the PCs a head start on a Temple, halving the initial cost of building such a structure.

Carina Stigard |

Go ahead and post the next month. I think that unless DM Aron posts that there is some event, we can just post the next month. If there is any role playing that people want to do, we can easily retcon that on the side as it likely will not affect the kingdom building dramatically.

exactly. Once I roll the event that's it, plus no one appears to be interested in the magic items so they can be sold.

Looks good. I think that next month we get two more hexes so that we are at 21 (1 remaining grassland and the fangberry seem good). At that point we become Duke/Duchess and have our stats added to two attributes (Econ & Stability). At this point we can shift Ganit back to Econ.
Also, I know you rolled to sell the Belt of Strength +2, but lets see if James might want that as it will add +1 to his Strength which is I believe what he is using for nation attributes.
I think now is the time to pull back and try to get the money for the Waterfront. It will take close to a year, but is the sort of thing that would be an item of national pride and is important for the economy (both in gameplay and from a story point of view).
@ DM Aron - do we have to acquire a certain number of hexes before being allowed to explore to the south?
Also, do we get the exp for 3 squares at this point since we have 2 filled in Evergreen and 1 in Olegsburg?

DM Aron Marczylo |

No number stated, just when I feel like proceeding. Also, best wait for the word from jameson as that boost would be very nice for combat as well as kingdom building. Any ideas on a name for the temple johd stays at when you take over? I think he has a idea of something which is possibly Erastil based.

DM Aron Marczylo |

makes sense to me. Also, I've been too generous with the item generation and decided to adapt a system where if anything under 4k gets generated it gets added to a treasury pool when sold. As soon as it reaches 4k, you gain 1 BP.
current pool from the past 2 items should be: 200/4,000 gp

Just got a message from Lukan and he says he's fine. Life just got in the way and he wanted to say how he loves how the game has carried on strong and he apologises for dissappearing like he did.
