I think it's a good time to develop our characters, have a few conversations, etc, seeing as the exploration may slow down a bit while we seek for replacements.
Yes I was going to suggest that. Will wait for a while to see if Lukan responds and if not I'll make a new recritment thread.

DM Aron Marczylo |

I totally got confused as we were out of order :).
Did we map out that hex, and how far are we from Oleg's?
The hex was the cache was mapped and you moved over into the next hex, camping there and when the morning came you saw a cave in the distance. There's no light in there so all you see from your distance is darkness.

DM Aron Marczylo |

Ah yes, I remember.
And we decided you would run the other PCs until we get back? Or are we heading back for now? We can always handle this hex and the cave when we get people.
You're choice. I'm willing to DMPC the characters until you return to Oleg's. Will give time for me to set up a recruitment thread.

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

I could see controlling 3 characters and the entire game environment as a bit of a daunting task. As much as I'm dying to check out this cave, it may be best to pick up a couple replacements before getting into something this sticky.
We have it mapped so we can come back to it in a couple days. Idk if anyone has torches or dancing lights/light spells, so a cave may not be a great place for us to wander into anyway.
At the very least, we could take a detour and try to map out a different route back to Oleg's?

DM Aron Marczylo |

Made the recruitment thread and as light is a level 0 spell you should be able to cast it, but I believe it has to be cast on a object to shed light, including weapons.

DM Aron Marczylo |

Let us know if you want any input in the recruitment, Aron.
Sure, hate to bring in someone you guy's don't like.

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

I just wanted to take a second to apologize to you all for my behavior on the boards over the last week. I just looked over those old posts and I can see how I was acting a bit condescending. Just know that I respect the rest of you as players and all of Aron's rulings as a GM. Though I wasn't necessarily acting solely on self interest, I did join the others for a ride along the low road and for that I'm sorry. I hope this situation didn't shatter any blossoming respect I had earned from you over the last few weeks. In the future I will do my best to ensure this campaign is fun for all of us.
When problems arise (and they certainly will) we can all tackle them together, regardless of our standing on the issue. Everybody can just do a simple Pros & Cons and leave it up to a majority rule vote, Aron serving as tiebreaker or what-have-you.
If my presence is going to disrupt anyone's enjoyability of this PbP, please let me know so that I may respectfully bow out while Aron is still in the recruiting phase.
Thanks team.

I don't believe you've disrupted anyone's enjoyment. However I might be wrong, but I hope not.

I'm not going to say you were perfectly fine, Ganit, as there were times you didn't help matters, but I do not hold you responsible. I would not want you to leave.
This game, especially with people who are initially strangers, is not meant to be a walk in the park. There should be conflict not only with monsters, but when we want to decide where a kingdom is supposed to go.
IC conflict is not only important to have realistic characters, but to enable us to be able to develop characters however we wish them to develop. OOC conflict is hopefully avoided, and looking back on all that's happened, I'm still a bit astonished it came about as it did. I only hope we can all keep IC conflicts separate from OOC discussions in the future... I do think that was part of the problem.
That said, it shouldn't have been, because I think the IC interactions so far have been great. Moving forward, I really really hope Lukan comes back, but in any case, I think we should use the Loot system that Alex clarified from this point forward, and the newcomers have to accept that. It is a fair system, not difficult to understand, and should not be up for debate any more.
I would also hope for a clear understanding that IC differences are not "real" or personal... they are characters... our team is set up so that there will be things we have to work out, but that's part of the reason I'm really enjoying the setup. In particular I like the fact that Cambyl seems to be getting along with everyone, and may prove useful in resolving differences that come up in the future. That was not the plan initially, but I think he fits that role :).
On the issue of Lukan, I would prefer we not recruit a replacement for him unless we get word that he definitely does not want to come back. If we can manage with 5, I'd prefer waiting a good while for him to check back. However, if you think we will not survive without a sixth man, DM Aron, then I leave it up to you, of course.
I don't know if it might be an option to have a temporary rep if he stays away for a while, and invite him back if he comes back? I would hate for him to come back the day after we picked a replacement and be stuck... Another option, of course, would be to have 7 if he came back later... but that might be too much :)
Sorry, I rambled... basically I don't want anyone to go :)

Well I've waited over 24 hours and hoped the recruitment thread will catch his attention.
After a while if he still hasn't replied or posted anywhere (no new posts on his profile at all) then I'll have to assume he's decided to leave the site and is either not coming back or going to have a cool off period of like a week before returning and trying to get into a new game.

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

Thanks for your support guys. I can't help but feel guilty for helping to derail our campaign. Lukan contributed to a lot of interesting IC moments so his absence for the rest of the campaign is really disappointing.
I agree that IC conflict is fun. Playing a character with a negative charisma score is a little difficult so I've tried to tone down my initial Snake Plissken/Rooster Cogburn/Clint Eastwood characterization (Maybe Ganit should lose an eye...?) so to not cheese everyone off OOC.
I never expected to see this whole thing turn out the way it did and I wouldn't want anyone to harbor resentment against me for having a hand in it. I fell into the fight fire with fire mindset and look where it got us. So with Bronwyn's approval I'd love to continue adventuring with you guys.
Btw, perhaps we could leave Lukan as an NPC guard at Oleg's post for a while. We could even recruit him into a government position when the time comes. No reason not to keep him around.

Lukan Swane "Swaney" |

Hey guys. I'm back. I had to cool down and take a break. I garnered enough strenght to take a look at the replies, on my phone, and was pleasantly surprised =). If its not too late I'd like to rejoin the cause. Let me finish eating and get to a real computer and catch up really fast. If you'll have me.

Lukan Swane "Swaney" |

ROFL OMG I almost spewed my milk everywhere after I read the Snake Plissken reference. Thanks for the kind words fellas. I know I was quite heated and my backspace is sore from it. It needed a break too =) I hope too much heat didn't escape from my head to my fingers.
I'm sorry it all had to come to that. I'm pretty busy as it is with a newborn and a 3 year old running around. I wanted a game where I could just sit back, enjoy some reading, roleplay a little, and have fun just escaping for a bit. I wont go on about it, I just want to say I am sorry if I did offend anyone and I'm willing to stick with it.
Your bromance awaits Ganit, if you all will have me back =)

Ah excellent. Aron why not just revert back to the books 4 player version of any encounter they go up against, put the ex-PC's back at Oleg's or back to Brevoy and upscale everything once you have 6 again. Alternatively you could just play with the 4 u have and use the book version anyway (although still watch out for the errors in stat blocks i point out in the conversion threads),

Should've heard me yell "yay" when I looked at the IC thread this morning via blackberry whilst still in bed.

I was going to do that with having everything downscaled back to 4 until they reach Oleg's, mostly because I didn't know you had a 6 player version of the encounters and have been rolling from the book, oops.
Also...
They're outside the black powder mine. Shall I remove one of the creatures or just leave it?

DM Aron Marczylo |

Just wanted to say, really like you're character's backstory and gives me an idea to make one like him. A arcane duelist, but who is a legitimate noble, though the family try to hide their ties to draconic blood that goes through their bodies.

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

Yay, someone remembers Snake Plissken! I mean, Lukans back! Good to see your avatar again brother. I'd be perfectly content to resume our PC's 'Tango & Cash'-esque resentment of each other, which will make their eventual 'Tango & Cash'-esque bro-mance all the better.
Aron - I think about that LoTR scene a lot too. In 3.5 I gave the Track feat to nearly all my PC's. I can't wait for Ganit to get the hero level of ranger Aragorn was. Personally, I loved him when he was "Strider" far more than when he started going by 'Aragorn.' Certainly made rangers a lot more bada** IMO.

You lost me with Tango and Cash. I'll have to netflix it or something and reminisce about our adventures so far.

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

Stallone is Ray Tango, a Los Angeles narcotics cop who dresses in fancy suits, wears wire-rim glasses, and talks to his stockbroker more than he talks to his mother. Kurt Russell is Gabriel Cash, another Los Angeles narcotics cop who has long, disheveled blonde hair and dresses in worn-out sweatshirts. Together, Tango and Cash are the two best narcs in LA...
It's terrible. Utterly terrible. But I love 80's movies so it being as poorly written as it was makes it brilliant. Literally half the dialog between the two equates to: "your phallus is inferior to mine." I'm pretty sure it's streaming on netflix so enjoy.

Lukan Swane "Swaney" |

That sounds brilliant. Now I am going to have to chose between watching that or season 5 of Dexter tonight. Its going to be a tough choice, I think the wife will ensure it will be Dexter, lol.
Oh man, Bron just ran into the cave all alone. Get back here Leroy Jenkins !

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

From phone.
So is anyone else dumbfounded that our 1st lvl bard just took off his armor and ran into this cave alone? I seriously don't even know what to say/do. I mean, really? Excellent work Bron lol!

DM Aron Marczylo |

Never seen Dexter nor the other two things you've said lol.

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

I couldn't make it through season 3 of Dexter. It was too slow for my gf and I so we recently switched to Breaking Bad. Aron, you should check out Escape From LA and Escape from NY. Kurt Russel is the coolest person ever. As it breaks down, all of my martial characters are based in varying degrees of Snake Plissken and all of my arcane characters of Squall Lionheart from FFVIII.

Lukan Swane "Swaney" |

Is that a new season airing? I'm pretty sure the last I watched was season 4...
Yup. Season 5. We are watching it on DVD right now. I wasn't too happy with the first episode of this season, they took a hard right turn to get Dexter back to his uncaring self after they started to make him be more 'human.' Was really contrived, but I have heard good things about the rest of the season so I will keep watching.
EDIT: Just checked to see if Tango and Cash was on netflix streaming and unfortunately it is not =(.

Sir Bronwyn Raslov |

I lol'ed hard right now.
Bronwyn was all "I'm gonna be heroic and all, and they will stop me from entering, I'll complain but finally agree". Then no one stopped him and he was like "Oh damnit, what now?".
You just reminded me I didn't finish season 5 and 6 is right around the corner. Go Lumen!

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

Bron - The first thing I did when I read your post was laugh. It seemed to amazing a thing for your PC to do for me to try and interrupt you right away.
Lukan - That stinks. I watched it on there something like 6-7 months ago. Stupid film maker's rights and whatnot.
Has anyone been watching the recruitment thread?

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

Yeah I've been checking it out every now and again too. I'm excited to see who makes the cut.
I think what I find funniest about this situation is that Sir Bronwyn is the best qualified to become our King haha.
Could anyone help clarify? Since the creature we're fighting takes up 4 squares, would it trigger 2 traps if it crosses the line?

Glad to see your excited. Besides he won't be King until the kingdom grows big enough. Before then he'll be Baron and then Duke. :p.
Best way to look at it if you are slightly jelous is that the ruler is the face of the nation, hence the Cha being the important bonus as said in the player's guide.
Love it. Love everything about it. This is how a memorable game is played haha :p
Totally Agree, ha! :)

From what I know and have experienced, it would trigger 2 traps unless it decided to squeeze through only 1 square, but if it knew there were traps like that it would probably just jump them. Just my two cents, its up to Aron.
Hahaha, I'm just glad Lukan is on the other side of the traps =P.

DM Aron Marczylo |

With the end of combat will have to make the decision soon on who to choose to join the group. Going to talk with you all over this and with a friend to see who you like. Personally I've been told Balodek is a very decent player and should be considered.
Anyone else have any favs that they like?

Cambyl |

I was disappointed there weren't any Witches, personally :). Balodek would mean we are in serious need of some arcane magic, so one of the sorcerers would probably be best. There seem to be 2 or 3 that would work well. Kzrira seemed to do a lot to make her backstory fit, but I think she also got into a different game, so not sure if that character is still available. Vanyc might be good for dealing with the Fey.

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

Yeah the front runners (IMO) are Balodek(Half Orc Cavalier), Carina(Changeling Sorcerer) and Vanyc (Gnome Sorcerer). We definitely need some arcane jazz in our group. Midir Vannya is an Elven Witch so that could add a touch of diversity to the group.
I was initially thinking that we were in need of a Rogue but I've decided that at our next level up I'll multiclass Ganit for a bit. So it's really a decision between the sorcerers and then whether we take the Cavalier or the Witch. If Balodek is a good player than that's bonus points.

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

I’ve had a lot of trouble in my RL games with the whole loot and challenge issue until I found this link to the SRD that cleared it all up for me. Before it, I stupidly gave a +1 keen kukri to a level 2 PC. Needless to say, I couldn't live that down and ended up having to give everyone else a bunch of overpowered junk to make up for it and it sucked. It just sucked haha.
I typically use the Table: Treasure Values per Encounter and match up the monster’s CR to "Treasure per Encounter" column to figure out what total value the treasure should be. There’s another table on that page help figure out total CR for multiple monsters.
I hope this is helpful.
Edit - Removed "spoilers" I left the sensitive info I was going to add on a flash drive that I left... somewhere... Curse my short term memory!!!
