Are making "Is X evil" threads evil?

What is the threshold on this thing? When did it stop being funny? Was it ever funny? What is that smell? Who let that dog in here? How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? If Mary is three years older than Jim and Susan is two years younger than Gary and Jim is twice the age of Susan what is everyone's age?

I think the endless stream of virtually instant troll threads alleging to parody other threads is the single most obnoxious trait of these boards. It's not funny; it's just spam.

No, it is not evil. It is the incarnation of Law, pure and simple. It is an attempt to establish an order to define what is. Therefore, it is law.

Not evil, just stupid.

Not much you can do about that.

1. This is the internet. There are no thresholds.

2. Usually after the first one. Sometimes before.

3. Occasionally. The hedgehogs gave me a chuckle.

4. You peed yourself.

5. Probably Cosmo.

6. Chuck Norris.

7. 14.

I don't think people asking for a definition of evil is, in and of itself, evil. But I do think it is troubling.

Do all of these people really not know what is evil in the world?

I get that these are RPGs, and that indulging in a bit of immoral, wicked, not-for-the-real-world fun in them is the goal for some (and even a minor indulgence for some of the otherwise goody-two-shoes such as myself), but why don't people just admit that to themselves and stop trying to equivocate basic morality?

Most of us do pull something wicked once in awhile, in-game, but we laugh about it and then continue on as normal. We don't come to a forum such as this, and look for justification or atonement through trying to convince a hundred strangers that our actions were justified and would be allowable in the real world if only people were wise enough to substitute their own relevant morality with our own bent, self-serving idea of what it should be.

If you want your good cleric to raise an army of the dead, so be it. Then live with it if your GM rules he's now batting for the other side. Have fun with that. Don't bother excusing it, and please do not come here to try to get anybody with half a brain to excuse it for you.

End of rant.

There being essentially no consensus on what constitutes evil in the real world, I'd say so.

1. Damn.

2. I think this is one of those before times...although the hedgehog one was funny.

3. See above.

4. Lies and slander. You'll be hearing from my lawyer.

5. Tell him to get it out.

6. These kind of jokes were never funny when they were started...they are still not funny. Please try again.

7. Wrong. Susan is 4, Gary is 6, Jim is 8 and Mary is 11.

I dunno. Parody threads seem much less obnoxious than deliberately creating threads and posting comments that the poster knows will be divisive to the community and almost certain to bring out the worst behavior.

Repeatedly doing so and then marveling when it turns into a flame war is the definition of either 1) insanity or 2) an attention-seeking troll.

I happen to agree. But then I just speed on by them in google reader, so if folks enjoy them, good for them.

My take is, you know how some cartoons like Family Guy or South Park run a joke into the ground until it's not funny, and then they keep hammering at it until it becomes funny again, and then they keep at it until it's not funny anymore? That's where we are with these threads—we'd like these "is [blah] evil" threads to pass quietly into the archives sooner rather than later.
