If you select the Linnorm bloodline from Ultimate Magic will the bloodline arcana ability of +1 natural bonus to ac for each level of spell you cast that is the correct energy type stack with the natural bonus you get from the Draconic bloodline starting at level 3? So if you are a level 9 sorcerer with the Gold Draconic bloodline and the Linnorm wildbloodline of fire and cast fireball you would get a +2 natural armor bonus from the gold dragon bloodline and an additional +3 natural armor bonus for 1d4 rounds from casting a 3rd level spell. A total natural bonus of +5 at least for 1d4 rounds. Is this correct or do they not stack?

Sorry for the thread necromancy (thread stabilizing?).

A friend is playing a linnorm-blooded sorcerer, & I noticed this too. Per RAW, I don't think they stack, since they are like bonuses. However, I think they should, since why make two abilities that conflict like that? As it is, this type of character going into dragon disciple will lose out on the bite attack. If the DM or player notices it, I'll say it should be houseruled for the linnorm ability to grant a typeless bonus to NA.

I FAQ'ed this, if only to bring attention to it.

That is what I was thinking. I hope there is an official answer to this.

Draconic bloodline increases your natural armor by 1.
Linnorm increases your natural armor by X for 1d4 rounds. They are both untyped bonuses so they wouldn't stack but higher natural armor bonus would still apply.

I wonder why this is being ignored? This is the rules questions forum. It seems like other questions are answered.

After reading it over it does seem like only the higher of the two would apply.

This makes it seem a bit weak at lower levels but makes sense at higher levels. Stacking say a six natural armor bonus ontop of an existing four natural armor bonus would be very strong.

The important aspect of bonus types is that two bonuses of the same type don't generally stack. With the exception of dodge bonuses, most circumstance bonuses, and racial bonuses, only the better bonus of a given type works. Bonuses without a type always stack, unless they are from the same source.

Untyped bonuses stack.

I don't think both being a bonus from differing aspects of a bloodline was what was meant by "the same source", but I could be wrong.

I'm not an official by any means but you do have an "official" answer. According to the rules as they stand only the higher of the two bonuses apply.

That is what I thought. The only problem is that it makes the ability worthless very quickly unless you are casting a high level spell. Even at 3rd level it is of no use. You can only cast 1st level spells and you already get a +1 natural ac bonus. I do like the idea that this does stack even though they are the same type of bonus but unless we get an official answer this is against the rules.
