Hey bud if you wanna make something else I can take over the duties of the technomancer with a decker and you can play something a little more straight forward?

Also since we are losing the Technomancer anyway, I might go back with my Decker, unless the gang needs my weapon specialist instead?

Alright, my character is done and is now being input so he will be up shortly(with more detail to follow either after tonight or tomorrow depending on how late it gets).

I was hoping that I could get approval from you on something that is outside the realm of items we would be allowed to buy with the purchasing restrictions since it fits in with the characters background and it is more 'illegal' than actually providing any sort of mechanical benefit(in fact I think it is more of a harm than a bonus). What I was looking for was a hot-sim version of the implanted simrig. I can accomplish the same goal(having illegal BTLs usable) by buying a normal simrig and just modifying it myself, but this seems like one of the things that would be important enough to my character that he would have it implanted.

Pertinent background info summarized below.

Rick grew up an Aztechnology corp kid with his folks in upper/middle management and a strong expectation for him to succeed. As he got a bit older he tested well in both chemistry and medical knowledge so was fast tracked in his studies, apprenticing in a lab developing new addictive additives for many of the corp's consumer food line.

Buried in work on top of his studies and the pressures of his family, Rick quickly picked up some bad habits, sneaking stimulants to stay awake through his work then eventually needing downers downers to bring himself back down to sleep. His habit stayed under the radar with his requests for the chemicals seeming legitimate for the lab and his knowledge helping him maintain a balance between the highs and lows.

It wasn't completely unknown though, a normal datasearch by one of the corp's security deckers turned up several oddities in the request manifests vs the actual tests being performed. Recognizing the symptoms of a burnout he approached Rick directly rather than bringing the information higher up. Trying to help ween the boy from the drugs he tried to teach the boy of the need to relax and escape from his pressures, introducing him to various types of sim that he used to escape from the real world as the two became friends.

The good intentions proved to be Rick's downfall as his addictive personality moved him quickly into deeper things than were ever intended and introduced him to BTLs as a way to leave the world behind. In this new world, his control began to slip as he had trouble distinguishing between his real life and fantasy one and eventually it resulted in a lab accident costly enough that the corp was likely to find Rick to be disposable.

Feeling responsible for his friend's fall, the decker smuggled Rick to the south out of Aztechnology territory, knowing that he would not be able to see him again but the boy would at least be safe. Even though he hasn't been in contract since his departure, the decker still looks over him as a matrix guardian angel, attempting to ensure the past can't catch up with him.

Fleeing to Rio, Rick has attempting to break from his old bad habits personally, though the call of the BTLs are still always there in his ear. All his time growing up among corporate negotiations has made him a natural bargainer and with his other skills being somewhat focused by his specialized schooling he realized that if he took a legitimate job in the medical field he would be picked up by Aztechnology swiftly. Instead he always feels to be tempting fate, plying his knowledge both theoretical and experience with drugs and sim in the underworld and finding a gang that could provide him protection. Since his time joining the gang he has found all his time working in a lab and doing so much to cover his tracks has shown some natural talent in a number of the more underworld arts.

Pertinent Stat Info: Positive quality- Erased(Aztech Decker keeping his record clear), Negative qualities- Scorched, Mild Addiction BTLs(Hasn't used since he fled, but they always call to him and have left their mark)


I think Roach is done beyond maybe some formatting and cleaning up the background I gave above. Probably should come up with a good description for him too.

I left 1BP in limbo based on the approval/disapproval of my request above, if approved then I'll use that money to upgrade my simrig and the other 2k will just go into starting money.

If disapproved, then that BP will go into the loyalty of one of my contacts.


Can't wait to see the rest of the gang. Adder and Roach are just such opposites that I can't help but think they will end up getting along.

I was curious about why you had thermographic vision in your cyber-eye when you have it naturally, but tying it into your pre-goblinization past is very cool.

Look forward to seeing how the others end up looking. I've got some hardware skill(mostly in a chemistry/medicine/b&e sense) but no real ability with software so I shouldn't be stepping on your toes if you go more standard decker Roidrage.

@Roach My eye was both a concession to having it in my past as well as wanting both of my eyes to have thermographic, since getting cyber removes that ability.

@BE Well...you're an adept who took Incompetent (Gunnery)...might I suggest this nice line of Nerf pistols? Seriously though, if you're looking at ranged ability then any pistol out of the core book will do you just fine.

You don't seem to have any combat skills listed in your profile. What do you want the gun for? Backup weapon go for concealment. Ranged weapon when you can't get to the other guy, go for a light/heavy pistol. Primary means of attack get the biggest most fully automatic weapon you can afford/get the license for.


I haven't finished with my skills yet.
I'll be taking pistols (primary weapon) and the stealth group.
Also getting a camo suit.
I'd like nanatattoos but they fact that they fade away is kind of a bummer. No point in spending money every week to get more tattoos.

They're actually great for criminals. Get yourself a very distinctive tattoo, rob somebody, and then bam, one week later you're the same as every other dwarf street banger in the lineup.

If you want pistols and stealth I'd suggest a heavy pistol with high P and good AP (negative is better I believe). Stay away from revolvers since you can't put a suppressor on them.

backstory:
harry calahans life had been dull up to a few years ago.
harry calahans grew up in rio central, with the hive gangers and violence being his lullabye every night. With everything going around him, his parents were able to provide a calm and secure upbringing for the boy. sure, he grew up poor, but his parents loved him to death, literally. Some random gogangers, as part of their iniation into the gang, invaded the small apartment just after drulls turned 17. it was obvious that they were high on whatever trendy drug was cool at the time. in an act of supreme love, his parents literally burst through the walls and threw themselves onto him, and a good thing too, for the gangers opened fire. after running their magazines dry, the gangers tore the place up and wandered off.
harry, wanting justice, went to the local lone star office and filed murder charges against the gangers. as fate would have it, he ended up talking to a fresh lone star recruit, dan zeullo. Dan felt great pity and remorse for the teen, and, in a rare act of charity, extended his hand and offered drulls a place to stay. while the paperwork, as the captain says, will take a long while to complete and quite some time before being authorized for the arrest of these gangers, dan and harry hit it off. they both enjoyed the same trid shows, both liked playing games, and so on. Dan showed harry how to use a pistol, and as an 18th bday present, gave harry his own warhawk. harry suprised dan with a supernatural accuracy and handling of the weapon. harry also suprised dan by saying he wanted to join lone star, and to bring justice to the poor. Unfortunetly for harry, he doesnt have a SIN, so he legally couldnt join lone star.
Dan was able to make it up to harry, for he caught the 3 gangers a year later, who were responsible for the deaths of harry's parents. Unfortunetly, the legal system failed harry. it was revieled that the captain was taking massive bribes from the gangers themselves, to avoid capture, or to get a warning when higher police officers were coming. this time, the captain went too far and, in a drugged haze, provided weapons and go-go juice to the gangers. the gangers busted out, and killed 5 lone star cops before being shot down. the captain, before being charged with murder, took his own life.
all this did little good to harry. he felt cheated, lessened, and angry that this could happen. He told dan "if this is the legal system of today, then i am glad i am not 'legal'".
with that, he turned his back on trying for a legal SIN, and becoming a lone star cop. instead, he doles out his own form of justice. Dan, or Lt Dan now, turns a blind eye, since it has helped his precint with a lowered crime rate.
Through his justice, harry has developed a crude method to getting results. gone are the kind and gentle ways, replaced by a mouth thatll peel paint, and make a nuns ears burn from the foul heresy he spews out.

i am 99% complete. ryuko, take a read and will this flavor work with your vision?

Once 1, 2 and 3 are done I will consider your character finished for the sake of starting the game. I will expect 4 eventually, but feel free to let that come organically. Players who are done tell me so, and how much is done, and whichever group gets done first will get themselves a thread up and running to begin play as soon as I get back on. Can't wait to start this up with y'all.


Hm. I think that I have one and two done. I suppose that all of us together need to come up with the answers to 3.

For my style:
My character is something of a face(charismatic and good with the charisma skills). He also has decent chemistry and medical skills as well as a small supply of drugs and BTLs to fill out the role of a dealer.

Obviously I wouldn't expect that sort of dealing to be our gang's specialty, just tossing out my own skills on the table.

We haven't heard from Immrtl for a while, so I am not sure what his plan is, or what redclover is looking towards but it looks like we are going to have a reasonably balanced team for a gang. A face, some muscle and a decker can cover a lot of ground so everything else is just going to make us more diverse.

Adder and I don't have real great vehicle skills, though we both can ride a bike, so I don't know if we would make the best go-gang. We might be better off a bit more traditional.

Also am a bit delayed cuz I thought I had all my books stored in digital form somewhere but can't find them so have to look for and re-download everything again.

So, to make things easier, I think I'll go with Graul, the Troll Mage (unless my group really thinks a cyber warrior would be more helpful?) since he's mostly already built.

Would anyone with more expertise in Shadowrun (so almost everyone ; )be willing to give him a look as he is and let me know what would need to be changed to fit this games rules? That would save a lot of time and gain you much gratitude from yours truly.

Fray, you get a say, though within the bounds of what I'd like to do, but that sounds funny to me.

Harry, That's meant to mean the name and style of the gang. Do you have colors? A catchphrase? Anything memorable? Gangs live or die by their recognizability, so it's an important consideration for them.

I was brainstorming ideas with a couple of my friends to see what they could come up with as suggestions. After giving them a bit of a rundown about what Rio is like, the suggestion I liked best was to have us be really well dressed(which would stand out in a mostly poor city).

Have a sort of professional look about us, suits and ties. It gave me a sort of image from one of the transporter movies where he stops right after a big fight scene, pulling a clean shirt out of his trunk and putting it on before making his get-away.

I am sure it would be easy to pick a name that would work with that sort of imagery.

We had all gotten quiet about the actual ideas behind the gang, so I figured I would toss out a suggestion. Feel free to shoot it down or come up with anything else for us.

This sounds good to me, just an idea on my part that we wear the suits to mock corporations. Since most of our backgrounds have bad relationships with a corporations, we could make a group that hates them or something like that.
