Threads with the same name overwriting one another?

Website Feedback

Hi PMG and Ross,

Weird messageboard bug I just ran into. There is a post on the messageboards: http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfinder/pathfinderR PG/rules/sellingASpellbook

I happened to know of a thread that answered the question in this post, as I started it a couple months ago. However, the current post has the exact same name as the old post. When I go into my posting history and try to link to my old posts...it sends me to that new post above!

Example: http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfinder/pathfinderR PG/rules/sellingASpellbook&page=2#96

For reference, here's the current archive page with the thread in it.

Yeah this has actually been a potential problem ever since we started archiving threads. I don't think it happens too often in practice, but it's still a problem. At some point we're going to change the way our URLs work (for other reasons), and that change should fix this problem going forward.

The new Weather in Kingmaker thread seems to have just overwritten the old one, which was unfortunately a useful thread that I was about to like the new one to. Is there any way of recovering the old threads?

Numbering the threads instead of giving them URLs based on title should work :)

I like Guids. String-based identifiers are the yuckies.

We actually do add numbers to the end of the title when there would be duplicates... it's just that that process isn't smart enough to check out the archives for duplicates.
