Ordered mine earlier as well, Pathfinder version. Also picked up the original S&W rules as well (LOVE the cover). Somewhat tempted to get the S&W version of ToH:Complete as well for the lairs but I think the PDF will have to suffice.

I'm totally bummed to be missing out on this...

Thanks for the reminder... ordered.

Just ordered! Can't access pdf though.

The pdf will become available when the books are, sometime in August, I believe.

Yeah guys, I'll need time to hyperlink this bad boy for the PDF and I'm only one guy here!

This is the LAST DAY you can order Tome. If you have not emailed me with a special request to "hold one" you must order and purchase today. In other news, Splinters 7-8 shipped to me Friday, so those of you who have been patiently waiting should have your orders shipped in the next few days. Several new books to be announced soon, including Splinters 9-10 (yeah! Complete series 1) and Tsar 9. Tome pdfs will go on sale in about 3 weeks (and be available to all of you who pre-ordered); make sure you have adequate download speed, its big. We are down to limited copies of a number of books, including Ursined, Madaro Shanti and Fane of the Fallen (SW version, Pathfinder version is sold out). Thanks again for the patronage and patience, will post a major update on Black Monastery, UBAD and a couple other tidbits soon!

Book is ordered. It's too bad that these won't be ready before GenCon, I'd love to have gotten it signed.

I wish I could, but I can only make it to one con a year.

You could rent a freight cargo ship, it should be enough to transport it to the docks and then a heavy truck to your door. Assuming you have a forklift in you house to move it around once you have it. :)

But make sure to have an extra room be built for accomodating it *grins*

And, you know, shipping would be only half again as much as the price for the book. C'mon!

I know this is a lot to ask, but any possibility of posting a sample of what the S&W version has that the PF version lacks? If it is sufficiently cool I may just pony up for the S&W version too. Else I'll probably just settle for the PF version I've already ordered.

I believe you will be able to obtain a pdf of the additional content found in the S&W version if you purchased only the PFRPG version. It just won't be in the book.

Not that I want to turn you off of the S&W version; but then I would want to recommend the rules book too, which also is available from Frog God Games.

Yep, the PF version does come with a PDF. But... I'm somewhat attracted to running S&W anyhow and if the extra content is sufficiently cool -- something I need to know before the door closes today -- that'll probably push me towards picking up the S&W version of the ToH:Complete as well. As for the S&W rules book, I'll probably regret it, but I picked up the prior version -- the cover appealed to me more and I wanted it on my shelf, whereas the new version I'd be happy with just a PDF.

Ah well, you don't need the newer version then. Carry on. :D

Not to derail the thread, but... really? The newer version isn't that big a change? I hadn't seriously compared the two, just knew I wanted to snag a copy of the Black Blade version before they were all sold out.

Hmm. Looks like news of this release may not have spread wide enough fast enough for at least one of my local games stores to stock this. Ah well... Maybe I'll catch a tenth anniversary reprint or something.

I have really only seen this newest one. It is very well done. Matt Finch sure can write rules that don't sound like a dry text book. It takes perhaps 5 minutes to create a new character and was real easy to reference for adventure creation. I would recommend it along with the S&W version of the tome.

The biggest difference between Swords & Wizardry: Complete Rulebook and S&W: Core Rules is that in the Complete Rulebook there are a LOT more classes given, in the Core Rules it's just the basic four. White Box simplifies it even more, as it treats race as the class for elven or dwarven characters. For me, the Complete Rulebook hits the sweet spot. It's almost akin to 1E, only a bit less rigid and formalized.

PDF versions of the Core Rules and White Box versions can be downloaded for free from the Mythmere Games Lulu store. There's also the Monster Book, another book that adds over 450 monsters for S&W (With very little overlap with the ToH, I believe). Between those two monster books, you have just about every monster you would ever need.

It adds quite a bit from the original.

Here's the Lair entry for the Salt Drake as a sample.

Quote:
The salt flats that surround the city of fire are home to a few roving bands of salt drakes. The drakes spend their days lazing in shallow burrows and their nights prowling about the flats hunting the stony, terrestrial crabs that also survived the destruction of their shallow sea by meteor storm. A clutch of 1d4+1 one of the beasts has been preying on the lines of bearers transporting stones across the flats to the mountains for the construction of aqueducts. The salt drakes recently hit the jackpot, seizing a prince of the blood royal who has crept away to adventure in the mountains, having heard stories of daring battles against dragons. The young moron has been tucked into a burrow and kept under guard by a sinuous female drake. His father has only recently gotten wind of his son’s disappearance and has promised a rich reward for any who bring him back alive.

Enjoy!

I offer a review of the Complete Rulebook here.

Dark Sasha, Kthulhu, and FGG Chuck: Thanks a ton for the insight into S&W core vs. complete and the excellent review. Also thanks for the Salt Drake lair entry... Given there'll be many of those and that I may play S&W it may just be worth going with the S&W version as well.

I ordered the PF version but will probably pick up the S&W PDF in the future. Can't wait to see this tome. I may need to buy a new book case though...

I want to put mine on a book podium that is usually reserved for unabridged dictionaries and other such reference materials. :)

Grr Pay Pal, think My card might have charged by FGG website and my paypal account dinged. What's the best way to shoot Bill Webb an email? A link on the FGG website?

Fyi I questioned the apparent double billing the first time I ordered something from Frog God. It wasn't a double bill, just a double reciept. Sounds like this might be the same thing here.

Yeah after checking the 3 emails I received about the purchase I figured that could be it and I'd wait and see if a 2nd charge popped up. Glad I decided to check this thread this morning. I thought I'd deleted that post once I decided to wait and see.

I ordered a second copy. I put a note in the paypal transaction to add it to my existing order. Hopefully everything will be OK... I should have two PF TOH books coming...

Just be careful not to store them too close together. If you do their mass might combine and thus be sufficient to begin a chain reaction and become a star. And that isnt the sort of thing you want on your gamming shelf.

Not just a star. But a Star of Horrors.

If they do release numbers, I'd like to see numbers for both versions of the book.

I hope that doesn’t mean he refunds everyone who preordered past the 5th, but that he just adds those orders, instead.

Already ordered (before the deadline) a copy for myself and a buddy. I'll order a second copy for myself (3 total) if we extend the deadline to the 11th...

Clark, or any other employee, I purchased this yesterday (6th) as the option was still on the website.

From what I understand, someone forgot to take down the ability to preorder. Does that mean I will be refunded my money or will I still receive my book?

Thanks.

From what I can tell you are on the list to get a tome. But it is Bill Webb who can confirm this as he is the CEO of Frog God Games and is the one taking care of orders. While Tome of Horrors Complete is a Necromancer book it is Frog God Games that is responsible for remaking the Tome.

Clark has graciously allowed this to happen but was not directly involved in the conversions, editing, publishing and layout of this book. You will also see quite a few monsters created or revised by Clark for the original Tomes I, II, & III. Clark has his own new company now, Legendary Games, and we are all waiting to see what awesome things will be coming out of the talented group of people he has assembled.
