Less than a Week before PaizoCon and No Outrageous Forum Hype?

PaizoCon General Discussion

I sort of expected more postings this close to PaizoCon. Im getting excited, preparing my own game and also looking forward to JJ's Call of Cthulhu game. Where's the outrageous forum hype? :-)

I'm attempting to wrap up the backgrounds for my pregen characters in the Fall After Pride game I'm running. I did that last year for Shadow of the Fellnight Queen so folks could call dibs on a particular character they wanted to play. I haven't even seen anyone identify that they're in my Fall After Pride game, though. So, even if I do post them, I'm not sure it'll generate much hype.

Well, if you want some small forum hype, I notice that someone dropped out of my first game of the con, "The Star of Prizendorff," so there's a space freed up in a formerly lotteried game if someone wants it, assuming the system is still taking extra registrations. I don't know if that's "outrageous" or not, but it's nice to have all the characters taken.

I'd totally jump on that, but I've got mini painting at 10:00 (plus, it looks like event signup has ended)

Hey Kevin,

I and my friend Scott are in your "Star of Prizendorff". Looking forward to it.

I am freaking out trying to finish things for my Gifted game. I only have maps and and a few stat blocks to finish. After that I will be writing some backgrounds for the pregen characters. I might do some work on smaller, less important details, but we will have to see if time allows for it.

My wife has been helping me keep a cool head, but I wake up every morning freaking out a little more.

On top of my game I still need to study for "You Only Die Twice." It will be my first PFS game, so I have extra study.

Hmm. I guess that explains it. I expect there will be a bit of "wait list/bring a friend in case someone doesn't show up." Basically the usual for convention games.

Yes, I would have jumped on that had the system let me...

I'm still hoping for more hype too; you know, to feed my own.

Okay. Here's some hype. And, to add some fuel to that fire, it appears I've got room for one more player with an extra pregen PC if anyone's interested. Anyone who reads this posting can sound off in the thread above, expressing interest in the game. Rather than first-come, first-serve, I'll go with the same method as last year. Do your best to convince me you should be the one I add to the game...and you just might make it in.

I vote for Marc Radle. He had to give up his slot last time because he couldn't make it to the Con. I ended up with it and I had a lot of fun playing with that crazy gnome rock hound. If Marc has that slot free, that is.

Liberty's Edge

I second that. He's a really good guy in the community, and a great writer, to boot!

So, rather than tout myself, I tout Marc Radle!

Well, knowing you somewhat from the boards, and you being the first to speak up, being both free and interested, you can have the 8th slot. Assuming of course you show up at the same time, identify yourself, and the lottery system hasn't done some strange re-add or something.

Really? Yes! I will absolutely show up, identify myself, and hope the lottery system doesn't change anything. Thanks!

What is the etiquette for dropping something else for this? I had this as a 4, but did not get it in the lottery. I did get a 2, which is full also (20 of 20) and would hate to keep someone out if I did switch. Before I make a case for getting in, can someone help a newbie out now that trading is closed?

I'd hate for this opening to cause a mad scramble of folks jumping out of other games just for this opportunity because they rated it higher. Usually, I only run tables of 5 players and had expected to do that this go-around, too. Last year, I made an exception because some folks had to drop out of one of my games and there were enough asking to fill those spots that I decided to make a table of 6 to accommodate all of them.

This go-around, I figured I'd only have time to make 5 pregens for the Fall After Pride game...primarily, because I was also going to make 5 other pregens for my Honor Among Thieves game (which I had to cancel due to a scheduling conflict). So, I had time to crank out a full 6 pregens...hence, the open spot in the one game I'm still running. I wish I could have included it as part of the lottery system, but didn't realize I'd have the scheduling conflict until right around the time the lottery was being number-crunched. So, my apologies if this opportunity creates a trickle-down effect on any other games.

That's actually a very good point. Marc wanted to play in my Shadow of the Fellnight Queen game last year along with his son and they both had to cancel their trip to PaizoCon. That's what set off the chain reaction of extra slots last year. If Marc is coming out for PaizoCon this year...and if he's okay with taking just the one open slot...I might be persuaded to accept him into the game. He needs to make a case for it, though, just like everyone else. And I'll weigh it against everyone else's pitch and see what we've got.

Maybe someone who knows Marc Radle can point this thread out to him. He may not even been looking at it, realizing there is a chance to get into a game.

Edit: Oooor he was furiously typing away as I typed this. :D

I'm here - thanks DS:)

Wow, thanks everyone (both for the "nomination" AND the very kind words about my writing etc! :)

Neil, I am coming this year and would LOVE to play! My son was scheduled to come as well but additional snow days caused his last day of finals to get pushed back to the day we were to fly out, so I'm coming solo (I'm bringing his Core Book along to get signed by as many cool gaming celebs as possible for him though!)

I feel kind of strange "pleading my case", as it were, but here goes ... :)

It is true I had to bow out of Neil's game last year, which did bum me out quite a bit. Also, I am one of those unlucky souls that did not get a single lottery event this year (which is certainly OK, since there are LOTS of very cool open events, seminars etc to attend!)

Let's see what else ... I'm a Capricorn, I enjoy long walks on the beach and nachos. Pick me, pick me!!! :)

Dark Archive

Little off topic - this is my first PaizoCon and I have volunteered for a couple of blocks. I have received one scenario, which I presume is for the Sunday morning block which is one of the slots I picked as it is listed in that block. Still waiting on the Friday slot I volunteered for as well.

Do we need to print out the Chronicle sheets ourselves and bring them to the Con? Will there be some type of battle mats provided? As I'm traveling from Canada, I want to minimize the cross border fun and giggles by packing only the essentials.

Any tips from the pro's would be great!

***THIS JUST IN***

I heard from a friend who knows a guy who lives with a guy who knows someone who walks the dog for someone who works for Paizo. He told me that Paizo is announcing Pathfinder 2E at PaizoCon! Instead of books, the system will be released on a 500,000 piece pog set, with each pog showing a single word from the rules. One needs only collect all 500,000 pogs and arrange them in sequence to display the complete rules.

***THIS JUST IN***

How's that for outrageous forum hype? :P

I certainly don't consider myself a pro, but I've run at a few conventions. As I recall, you will want to print your own chronicle sheets. I've seen the map thing go either way, but it has been a while since I've seen maps provided at a con -- count on bringing your own.

If any Paizo folks want to correct me, please jump right in. :)

Usually chronicle sheets are provided. Everything else you're on your own.

Okay, Marc. I haven't seen anyone else chime in here or on the game thread I started. So, you're in the game if you wanna be. Show up on Friday night (6PM to 11PM). And you might want to look over the pregens I posted to see which one strikes your fancy.

In fairness, Neil, I'd absolutely LOVE to be in this game, but as I'm in Jason's Cursed Lot game AND Mr. Greenwoods game, it would have hardly been fair for me to try!

Can't wait to meet you and give you heck about being a Carolina Panthers fan, though.

That's great Neil, thanks! I'll be there with bells on!

I'll pop over to the other thread and take a look at those pregens.

Should we do anything as far as the official schedule goes? I'm just signed up for some seminars at this time, so I guess I just won't go (they both have plenty of room left). Do you know if there is a way to get this added to my PaizoCon schedule (I like to be official)? If not, no worries - I'll just show up :)

And yes, I rolled multiple 20's, and then 20's to confirm the 20's. Luckiest lottery EVER. Suffice it to say, I am EXTREMELY excited for PCon this year :-)

Please do. That thread's been languishing ever since I posted the pregens. I had hoped it would draw out those who are signed up for the game, but I guess I'll be as surprised as anyone else regarding who's at the table Friday night. Maybe they're all Paizo staffers and they're keeping it on the down low? :-D

Hopefully seeing that thread popping up again will trigger a mass influx!

That's never a bad plan. I know some players failed to show for a few PFS games last year. Not sure that happened to a lottery game, though. But I have had no-shows at a convention here in Charlotte before and just plucked some random passer-by to join the table.

No problem! In fact, I very deliberately didn't try to sign up for Neil's game even though last year's game was a total blast because I was hoping you could get into it. Glad this all worked out for you in the end. Have fun!
