Age of Worms - Prior Event References?

Age of Worms Adventure Path

1 person marked this as a favorite.

In the Age of Worms adventure path series there are some references to a couple prior events:

1) The Fane of Scales (a temple that fell to earth as a comet)

2) Malgarius (a demon lord in the form of a fiendish tree that explodes and wrecks destruction upon the surrounding city)

Where can I find info on these events?

Link to start the Malgarious goose chase

I will check this one as well later tonight. I could not find anything on the other one.

Yep. The prophecies as written refer to previously published Dungeon modules, because the AoW is supposed to be generic.

If you play in a well-defined campaign world, it's best to replace those generic prophecies with customized ones (I did part of the job for Greyhawk, if someone is interested).

Scarab Sages

My bunch assumed the tree was a reference to an encounter in Shackled City, which they played before this, and I must admit, that's how I ran with it.
(They are at the level where they're getting the huge info dumps about the southern jungles, and what went down in Cauldron, so it's not metagaming. The eruption of Cauldron is one of the other prophecies.)

You can basically replace it with anything major or world changing that happened in your own campaign world. It is definitely fun if you can link some of the old prophecies to events you've played in previous campaigns.

I'm interested!

Me too.

I used customized ones for the Forgotten Realms too. I used events from an old campaign for the prophecies so the characters that had played in the old campaign were sheepish when they realized the part they had played in possibly bringing about the AoW. :-)

Please consider that I did write them in french, and feel free to improve my translations.

I made eleven prophecies, which I intend to give to the players as part of Bucknard's (Balakarde's) notes once they get Tenser (Manzorian) back (I intend to merge Return of the Eight into the mix).

Try to guess :

Once our slayers felled,
By an army born from cinders,
Fleeing burning rain et smothering wind,

Note:
This one refers to the conquest of the ancient flannae by oeridians et suloise fleeing the magical holocausts.

Once the crownless emperor,
Slain without dying,
By the hand he himself armed,

Note:
This one refers to the slaying of Vecna, he of the whispered empire, by Kas.

Once the shadow of the sundered sun,
Set in the depths of Hell,
Casting upon the world sorrow,

Note:
This one refers to the schism between the Great Kingdom and Nyrond, and to the Age of Sorrow caused by the crowning as Overking of the devil-allied House of Naelax.

Once the fetters of the half demon king,
Wrenched from his skull throne,
Broken by an innocent,

Note:
This one refers to the release of Iuz by Robilar, unknowlingly bringing dispelling magicks to its prison under Castle Greyhawk.

Once a city swallowed by a black pearl,
And caught in the nets cast by a queen,
To be added to the ornaments of her crown,

Note:
This one refers to GDQ1-7, when Lloth summoned a giant black bubble around Sterich as a first step to Oerth's conquest.

Once the double and quadruple temple’s keystone,
Twice raised and twice cast down,
Destroyed by its own strengths,

Note:
This one refers to the second fall of the Temple of Elemental Evil, and to the destruction of the Orb of Golden Death.

Once the secret heart of the hidden masters,
Weakened by treason,
Broken by Oerth’s wrath,

Note:
This one refers to the destruction by a volcano of Sunderham (not Cauldron!) in the Slavelords modules.

Once the friend smitten by the friend,
In a day of peace,
Under the red shadow,

Note:
This one refers to the treason of Rary the day of the Great Signing. It's probably the weaker of my prophecies.

Once the union of three spirits,
Incarnations of hate, rage and knowledge,
In the depths of the Oerth,

Note:
This one refers in truth to the reunification of Bucknard's spirit, not to the Ebon Triad or to the Triple Abomination.

Once the rise of a tide of death
Made of my sons,
In the hills of the lords of law,

Note:
This one refers to the release of Sons of Kyuss in the Cairn Hills during the Blackkeep module.

Once his city given to me,
By a hero of the pits,
Under the acclamations of the crowd,

Would the Age of Worms come.

I would gladly hear your propositions. Some Living Greyhawk events (the Ether plague comes to mind) could be better suited.

Thanks for the help folks!! Much appreciated!
