Edit: On additional thought, if the no-buffs stems from the "javelin attacks, rogue doesn't" idea, then using it to support that this is the correct interpretation is a bit of circular reasoning.
I think FiddlersGreen was simply expanding on the notion, not using it as justification.
I do however consider the language of the spell specifically giving the bonus, as mdt points out right above, as an added indicator that the caster is not making the attack /themselves/. Not so much circular, as the language of the spell agreeing with itself, if viewed on this side of the 'opinion split'.
For what it's worth, I don't think you're in your own little world (though I do think you're wrong ;). The language does have a bit of flavor-sound to it.
