It might also be that I remember them fondly, from the good ol' days. (Fiend Folio FTW)

I pilfered some of the manuscripts while Big Daddy Orcus was away passing judgement on some silly mortals that came calling. Had to sneak them back before he noticed though. Now I will have to gnaw my tongue off to keep from saying anything before he announces things all official like. :)
Not to mention there is more than just one product coming... of course I can't say how many... yet. :)
DM you are such a tease :)
It is true, what she says. I may have given her a tiny glimpse of things to come...
But she's not at liberty to reveal anything. Sorry, DM.

If I did that, then you would no longer be in what your forum name is. So where's the fun in that. All I can say is... and I might get in trouble but thats ok I am use to it. Edger Allen Poe... :D

DM, you are in trouble, but it's OK. The problem with you, though, DM, is that you enjoy the punishment.
I can confirm that a part of one of the several products we will have available soon will have a Poe element to it.

Nice, The Cask of Amontillado is one of my very favorite short stories, right up there with the Color Out of Space by H.P.Lovecraft.

My only fear - to be serious for a moment - is that the product categories Orcus starts pumping out just aren't useful to my group. That says a lot for my appreciation of the older Necro products... I want this stuff to be useful so I can want and buy it, sight-unseen.
Just so long as we don't end up with an announcement of a new campaign setting entirely on the ocean-bottom floor, or a series of gnome-centric products or official rules for nose-picking specialists we should be good. As in... no niche products.

I don't think that will be a problem. The closest to niche products I think it will be is by theme. As in some of the products will be made with a theme in mind, like my hint about a product inspired by Edger Allen Poe.

a product inspired by Edger Allen Poe.
Sounds intriguing. Annabelle Lee is my favorite, but Poe gets points for inventing the word 'tintinabullation,' too.
I had a superhero powered by a sound-producing metal alloy named 'tintinabullum.' Nobody in my gaming group ever gets my pretentious literary references...

We'll see. I'm inclined to give the benefit of the doubt given who we're talking about as authors here, but I'm not personally big on references, homages, nods, or themes from the outside unless it's done so if you miss the reference it's still cool. What I mean is - assume I know nothing about Poe whatsoever (a reasonable assumption in this case) - if the end product goes over my head because I don't get how awesomely referential and complimentary and salute-laden it is, the product is a failure (to me). If you name a monster after something from Lovecraft and the monster is awesome, it doesn't matter if I've read Lovecraft or not. (Again, safely assume I haven't.) Bottom line of what I'm saying is that if what you've written is spooky and scary and good because it's spooky and scary and good, not because "oh, hey! This is like Lovecraft, which I remember as spooky and scary and good!" then you're doing it right.
I don't know why I'm getting myself so concerned about if I'm going to like the products or not. Must say something good about Clark's past* that I so badly want to be interested in the new offerings.
*This Wednesday one of my groups should finish up The Doom of Listonshire, for instance. Then we can get back to focusing on progress on The Grey Citadel.
Dark_Mistress |
You won't need to know anything about the source of inspiration. Since Clark mentioned the hint was about a Raven now. Those who know Poe's work will likely get the reference but you wouldn't need to know or get it was inspired to use it. If you liked some of his previous works and Necromancer works, I think you will be happy with the new stuff.

Thanks for the info. As it happens, it's just coincidental we're running those two modules right now. I'm a player in Listonshire, which is currently set somewhere in Golarion. I'm DMing TGC, also somewhere (unspecified) in Golarion. Both are just one-shots with characters created for the modules and no plans to continue afterward.
My player campaign I might ask for Carrion Crown AP after this, but I'm unsure. For what it's worth, I participate in three different games, usually gaming five days out of every two week cycle.

OK, now back to discussing how awesome the guys Clark has put together are and what terrifically cool stuff we can expect to see from them.
They're incredibly awesome guys, it's fantastically terrifically cool stuff, and... it's still not here.
You know, the more I think about it, the more I come to the realization Dark_Mistress isn't role-playing very well right now. Succubus, yes? Chaotic Evil, yes? And she's just... following the party line and obeying Orcus' street date missives? Something's wrong here. I mean, she's got to subvert his instructions somehow, putting her own nefarious purposes above his. Demons just don't play well together, so I figure she needs to write a nice Tell All post. Which coming from a succubus frankly I'd read under any circumstances.

(you guys might want to start your own thread about the FGG stuff, not sure it will get seen here)
Yeah, sorry Clark. It's just that people keep asking questions about FGG stuff on your thread. Some may perhaps not quite realize that Frog God Games has indeed put out or will put out many of the things that they keep on asking you about on your threads. Rather than the questions going unanswered I erred on the side of answering them.
I plan on being at PaizoCon myself. I hope I'll be able to hear you tell all the Legendary stories you are able.

Yah. I was wondering about that. Folks are linkin' FGG and LG the same way they think Pathfinder and Dungeons and Dragons are the same rpg (check the thread on who'd you want to be your dungeonmeister, dead or alive). Uh, no, folks: both pairs are very, very different. ^_^

Clark,
Any idea on how and where you will be making such an announcement etc? I'd like to make sure to catch it (and chat if possible) but obviously everyone's schedule is packed with events, games etc.
Will you have a booth / stand at the Con?
Thanks!

Well, I think that Bill Webb might be getting the Dave Arneson treatment...despite being just as involved in the creation of D&D as Gary Gygax was, Gary for some reason became the "face" of the company. I don't really know much about how involved eithier of them were with Necromancer Games, but it does seem to me that Clark Peterson was kind of the "face" of Necromancer Games.
As for the "DM, dead or alive" I think that they were using "D&D" as an all-inclusive term, for any edition and similar games. Hell, even a few dissimilar, one or two posts focus in on horror and Lovecraft, which suggest Call of Cthulhu to me, even with the good amount of Lovecraftian influence on Pathfinder.

They was pretty evenly involved with Necromancer games from what I recall. I think the reason Clark is seen as the face of the company is because he was a lot more active forum poster. Clark would post on forums all over and often. Bill posted on the Necro forums some but not as much, and I rarely remember many posts by him off the Necro forums. Where as Clark had tons and tons of posts. My guess is that's the reason for it.

I founded Necromancer, but I got Bill involved really early on. And our role was pretty equal. My role always included more external interactions--the legal stuff, licensing, overall creative direction, etc. Bill, particularly as time went on, did more specific directing of authors, which is more internal. Its probably fair to say I was more the face of Necro. But we are equal in my eyes. Bill is a great guy and I am glad to see he is doing FGG.

I agree. I may not know him personally, but he's been great during our e-mail correspondence, and I really like what he's doing with FGG...especially since I absolutely love Swords & Wizardry: Complete Rules, and FGG is doing a great job providing adventure support for that system.

Clark Peterson: Hey I just had a funny idea.
OH REALLY ^_^.
Guennarr |
Guennarr, this thread should answer your questions.
Edit: This thread has more Legendary Games info, as well.
We are doing different things. He is more focused on retro rules systems. I am less interested in that. I want to support Pathfinder. Bill and I did amazing things together as Necro. But it makes sense for all sorts of reasons to leave Necro as its own entity and for us to do our own thing individually. I think those other threads really answer the "why". Its all good. :)
Thank you both for your answers!
Apparently Froggodgames supports Pathfinder as well - at least as an alternative rules set. And the new version of the Tome of Horrors will be available in Pathfinder version, too.
So I can live with that. ;)
I am also looking forward to your new products! Your hints so far sound very promising.
Cheers,
G.

I dunno if I would say alternate rules set. Short of the leftover Necromancer stuff (published for PF only), absolutely everything that FGG has published has been for both S&W and PF. So the support has been pretty much equal, if anything slightly titled towards PF stuff.
