Commodore 64...2011 update

I'm crying rivers of nostalgia. I wonder if I have $900 in couch change...

I have a Commodore 64; drive and lots of games for it; works fine; havent used it in years

pretty wild how they put all that modern stuff in it; I have seen a lot of mods and upgrades for commodore 64's over the years; some quite impressive.

Oh wow! I grew up playing a commodore 128 (whoa!)

Ultima 4-5
Bards Tale 1-2
not to mention a million weird games like mail order monsters and quixx.

Wow. No school like the old school indeed. I had one, though I was never really much of a computer user, sad to say.

I'm not so sure. I did have a C128D, ages ago. These diskettes were a real step-up from the tapes the C16 had.

But that was ages and ages ago. Nostalgia's all nice and well, but paying that kind of money for a look-alike/emulator is taking it too far for me.

Amstrad FOREVAAARRR !

DEATH to the HERETICS !!!!

Seriously, I might be tempted if they did that for the Amstrad, though, I'm afraid, the EYES ... They might BLEED !

Played recently Starcraft 01 again ... Wow, just wow. I wonder how much is technical progress, and how much is just your old script is not compatible with my current high tech screen.

Action was still fun though.

That game is old enough to have sex in some countries now. And it wasn't eye-candy back in its day.

I'm still hoping someone will go and recreate the old campaign for SC2.

...and someone has. Or several someones. Yay!

Liberty's Edge

Okay. I am now convinced. Animating Dead Computers is an act of pure unadulterated Evil.

Jeez, this thing has better stats then my current desktop almost. Grrr...

I liked the 64, but it was the Amiga that made me sit up and go 'WOW!'

Yes indeed! Built-in quadraphonic speakers FTW!

Well, that's more due to the fact that you have an old and/or weak desktop ;-P

Now that you mention the stats, I had to go and have a look (mainly to assure myself that my rig is much better than this, so I can sleep tonight ;-)).

This thing starts at 600 dollars and sports kit they usually put in netbooks. And unlike those netbooks, it doesn't have a screen. For that price, I'd actually expect a touch screen.

As I said, nostalgia carries quite the price tag.
