It's just makeup. MADE OUT OF SHADOWS SCRAPED FROM BEYOND TIME AND SPACE. Maybe? or maybe just makeup? Dunno... because:

Not really. His realm's a different plane than this one. He's as far away as the First World, for example, but with far fewer methods of coming and going.

It was some sort of dwarf booze. Stuff almost had to be cut with a knife. You can get it from dwarves, of course. Not sure where they get it. Some sort of septic system in Hell maybe?
