Laibach - The Sound of Music (Prelude)
Laibach is the first western rock band to visit and play in North Korea. It's an amazing piece IMO.

In case anyone hasn't heard this already:
Mastodon covering "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin (Record Store Day 2019 release)

Amy MacDonald covers Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark" on one of her early albums... but this live version with an orchestra from 2010 is some serious joy for me.

I've gotten to love bluegrass covers of songs. There are tons of collection albums out there (90's punk are pretty good IMO).
The best though (IMO) is Iron Horse. Three examples:
Iron Horse covering "Rocket Man" (Elton John)
Iron Horse covering "Closer" (Kings of Leon)
Iron Horse covering "One" (Metallica)
I found them a couple years ago because I had been listening to Metallica one week, then some bluegrass the next week, and Google's algorithm was like "here, try this".

"Piece of My Heart Live" - Liliac
Five siblings who just blow me away every time I hear them. Melody, the singer, has a voice that slammed me right in the gut like only one other metal vocalist ever did, the immortal Ronnie James Dio.

Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" has been covered by about a million singers, all putting their own take on what I believe to be one of the greatest songs ever written. The first time I ever heard it was when my friend Paul sang it in a coffeehouse back in the mid-90s and right there in front of everyone I bawled like a newborn. I had never heard anything so beautiful in all my life.
Now, jump ahead to the beginnings of the Facebook Era. A lot of my friends knew I had a bit of a clown phobia. Not the freak out and run away type but just a general sort of *squick* about them. So of course they'd send me pictures of clowns as "pranks". The ones that were designed to be scary were the least bothersome to me. It was the happy or sad clowns that sort of got me.
A few years ago I discovered a singer called Puddles the Pity Party Clown. I'm sure many of you have heard of him or seen his videos by now. He's a nearly seven foot tall man dressed in the classic clown costume with the big fuzzy buttons and little tilted crown with a face that shows a sadness so deep it's profound. It's a gimmick, of course, and his act always makes people laugh, because hey, what's funnier than a sad clown? Then he sings. And oh my God. A rich, deep (I suppose) baritone with an amazing tonal range. So much emotion pours from him when he sings.
So, back to "Hallelujah". I've been a fan of Puddles for a while and only a year or so ago I found his version of the Leonard Cohen masterpiece. And like my friend's version, it touched me in such a way that I cried. Just out and out ugly-cried. And when the song was over, every fear, every bit of trepidation I have ever had about clowns was gone. Every damned bit.
Listen for yourself. I hope you enjoy it.

Alone by Floor Jansen (Nightwish lead singer), Heart cover.
She does such a beautiful cover of that song. I just love her to pieces.
