I was inspired by a great story I read and wanted to share.
I can't remember where I saw it but I'm sure other Paizonians read the story, too and can post a link.
Anyway, I'll try not to leave anything out:
A seven year old boy had slowly lost his sight five years earlier after some kind of 11 month illness as a toddler. His parents had divorced; I wanna say shortly thereafter. The story didn't say what ended the relationship.
Anyway, the child, apparently with some vague memories of vision, often became depressed and cried himself to sleep in Mom's arms -- the article does a much sweeter job than I articulating it. And at some point Mom sought her Spirituality and found Faith.
One evening during one of the boy's particularly emotional cryings, his mother, cradling her child tight, put her faith on the line and promised him that tonight was a special night, that God would hear his prayer if only he really believed and honestly prayed. She helped wipe his tears and started his prayer with him, tucking him in bed. Though he had prayed many other times, she promised, tonight's would really count if his faith was strong enough. He promised his faith was strong enough and Mom was inspired at the conviction of her boy's zeal. Sincerely, he prayed himself to sleep.
The next morning, sure enough, the boy awoke with a start, but was still blind. Sobbing with disappointment he asked his mother "why?" and she said "April Fool's!
