Gunslinger targeting deed somewhat broken

Gunslinger Discussion: Round 1

we today when we played i used my gunslinger of level 9 to attack a flying creature with the targeting ability and dropped him to the ground instantly that seems to me to be a little somewhat over powered

We ran into a similar problem as well. The first time, I forgot guns only had 5 range increments, but the gunslinger still brought down a dragon with a musket and the sniper scope with one shot against the touch AC. Tonight, he would've sent a roc to the ground except his crit killed it. For the roc though, I had him make a CMB check, which he didn't succeed, but I felt it was a good compromise and fitting with similar effects.

That way a tiny little bullet won't automatically send a creature to the ground, but the full BAB gunslinger shouldn't have too much problem, especially with Agile Maneuvers.

An alternate idea I had was forcing a fly check, DC 10 + 1/2 BAB + Wis. Haven't tried that yet, but will get an opportunity for it next week.

A couple things here. First off it is not a scope, it is sights. You know, a metal rail on your rifle. Those little metal tabs that stick up from the gun. It helps you aim but not see further, so don't let your players use it as binoculars or anything. Secondly, rifles are not in the game yet. The campaign setting book is not actually compatable with pathfinder currently, which is why the pistol in the playtest is weaker than the one in the campaign guide, so he really should be using the musket. Now, the size of the bullet is actually why it can do so much. That small bearing has less wind resistance on it and is being pushed forward by an explosion. It is both a bludgeoning and piercing type ammunition so it breaks the bone and travel through it a bit. To flying creatures, this is a problem because birds have hollow bones. Not sure about dragon anatomy but still. Imagine someone is running and you ran up next to them and hit them in the leg with a hammer. Chances are they will go down from the impact screwing them up even if it did not break anything. Arrows are different as they are just piercing weapons, plus that ability basically says he can aim really well and shoot at the joints.

EDIT: Oh right, I forgot. This is no less broken than using a spell that can stun someone on a flying creature. They would drop since, if you can't flap your wings then you just fall. Large creatures can not hover without a difficult fly check.
