But yeah, having a scientific background those commercials that say, "I don't want any ingredients in my food that I can't pronounce" make me grind my teeth.
Stupid people have more restrictive diets? What about those with speech impediments? Elmer Fudd isn't allowed any food with an 'r' in it? Then why is he always hunting Bugs? No one says, "I'm having bunny for stew tonight," it's always "wabbit"... er... "rabbit".
I agree with CY that it's incredibly important to read the labels on food. We're fortunate that we have a local farmer's market that's incredible, so most of our sustenance is fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat, all locally grown.
Processed food in the U.S. is full of corn syrup precisely because the U.S. government massively subsidizes corn, so you've gotta do SOMETHING with the excess (corn syrup and animal feed).
But yeah, we've reached the point that we pretty much can't buy canned or packaged anything because it's too sweet.
Healthier for us, but a PITA to have to cook every night...

...finally, before I dive into work, it's the third day in a row that I'm running (Crimson Throne for 6 Saturday, We be Goblins for 4 Sunday, and the kids' Serpent Skull game for 6 today). It's been quite a while since I've run 3 games in a row, and those were always 3 of the same game (Rise of the Runelords, usually).
Should be fascinating to see what mistakes I make tonight, especially with the kids playing.
"What do you mean you avoid the fire? You're a goblin!!!! Oh, wait. No, no you're not..."

Camahn, at least try it! I need a FaWTL buddy! It can't hurt...

... but maybe.
Hm... just realized that you weren't the GM (I hadn't read the whole thread until now).
I'd be less predisposed to join with someone who didn't understand the likelihood of my just... disappearing.
(It's not a character trait I'm proud of, and I'm working at returning to games that I've dropped from by default/accident, but it's something that I'm aware of and want to be honest about.)

I have a paycheck with 188.02 USD on it. How do I cash this check for free, without paying any of that money, nor any other money in my possession, so that after I cash the check, I am 188.02 USD richer?
If you don't have a bank account or direct deposit (and even then, some places and/or some employers charge a DD fee), you're pretty much completely out of luck.

Absolutely true. Doesn't mean it doesn't make me grind my teeth...

There's a bank account somewhere in the world that I opened up as a kid and didn't seriously do anything with since, although something I read on the internet suggests that the same bank the check came from will do it without a fee
So I guess that means I need an account at the same bank?

Wrong!
There are those older than you (and with worse taste) on this thread...
Oh! So you watched the old Spiderman one, too!
(Or maybe you refer to Adam West's Batman interpretation? I'm pretty familiar with those.)

Ah, geez. Adam West's Batman. Lou Ferrigno's Hulk. Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman. The Six Million Dollar Man AND the Bionic Woman.
Even the old live-action Spider Man on the Electric Company.
If it had live-action super heroes, I watched it.
Even back then I winced at some of them, but I watched 'em.
And the Six Million Dollar Man vs. Bigfoot was one of my all-time favorites. Aliens? Bigfoot? Bionic men? All it needed was the Venus probe to make it complete.

EDIT: DANG it, Ninja-yesterday! Of course I know Knight Rider!
The post has been edited for correction.
Dang it. ;P
Didn't they have a bionic dog spinoff of those, as I recall it was a german shepherd
Yes. Back in the 1970's the key to destroying a show was to add a dog. There was indeed a bionic German shepherd. Just before the show died...
Huh, well, you guys got me. I don't remember that one.
You guys are forgetting the most important show of all, Knight Rider
#Hasselhoff4lyf!

Not so coincidentally, I have had German Shepherds since my childhood.

That's the one that made me love helicopters and be certain they were superior in every way to airplanes. Ah, youth.

Once in a while it happens.
I opted out of direct deposit (for now) for the simple reason that I don't have a functional bank account.

I have encountered this in and out of chemistry in my personal, professional, and school lives. Never gets easier to deal with.

I'm irritated that I have to, but banks still love that paper:
In short, I have a long history of experience that says physical checks are the only way to protect myself from companies that unscrupulously auto-deduct from my account. Add high "convenience fees" for not using paper, and companies that aren't set up to accept anything other than paper checks, and I still have a checkbook that I use 5-6 times a month.
EDIT: There's also the interpersonal stuff. My brother foots the entire bill for our ski trip. I have to cut a check for lodgings, food, etc. I'd love to transfer electronically from my account to his, but again, as usual, there's a big "convenience fee" to transfer electronically, while a check is essentially free.

My tenants tried to set up a direct transfer from their bank to my credit union. The bank wouldn't do it without a $3 monthly fee, while mailing me a physical check is free.
Many service providers (our plumber, our kids' hospital) don't bill at time of service, but send invoices later. It's much faster to write a physical check than to set up yet another "pay to account" on my credit union's web site. And if you try to use a credit card, they charge you a significant "convenience fee" that runs from a few dollars on into the hundreds (to recoup the 1.5% the credit card company skims off the top). I'd rather spend the money on a stamp, thanks.
Every time I give a company that bills me on a regular basis my credit card or bank account number, they abuse the privilege by auto-billing me. And guess what? I have yet to find a single company that doesn't accidentally charge me for something I didn't order. Because why not? It's a lot more fun to keep the money until the consumer can prove that he didn't order something. So for them I set up manual accounts in my credit union to send them physical checks.

sigh. Sounds like little has changed. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm so financially ignorant that I couldn't tell you what makes a credit union different from a bank or a credit card company. :Þ
I'm sure Orthos or someone else will correct me with the finer details, but:
