Our roommate is going on a week-long vacation. I thought it would be a nice surprise to replace her dishwasher racks because some of the tines have broken, so when she returns, everything would be shiny and new.

I looked up prices today.

Racks run from $130 - $200 EACH, meaning it would cost $260-$400 to replace both top and bottom. A new dishwasher is under $500.

I... what the... I can't even.

unfortunately, American society has become completely disposable. It is cheaper to replace than fix, and that is a true loss.

My top five favorite T.V. shows

1. Archer
2. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
3. The Simpsons (mostly pre-movie)
4. The Office (with Steve Carrell)
5. 30 Rock
6. Drunk History
7. Arrested Development
8. Robot Chicken
9. Family Guy (especially the Star Wars episodes)
10. Futurama

Yes I added more, guess Seinfeld didn't make my top ten after all :-)

Edit 2: if I wasn't on my phone I'd switch Arrested Development with The Office

I do not care for most of those. But it might be because I really do not have much of a sense of humor

That's deliberate. They need to keep building up their army of discarded, angry robots, poised to overthrow the society that threw them out like trash.

Good thing I'm running this one until it self-destructs.

Weekly Swedish football news:

IFK Göteborg played two games in the past week, a 0-0 draw away against Gefle IF in what's apparently the last ever game at Strömvallen, and a 2-1 win against Falkenberg, leaving them in third place after their best start to a season in 21 years! SORT-OF-WHOOO!!

6 5 1 1 10-4 16

Meanwhile, IFK Trollhättan travelled to Mariestad to play an IFK-derby against IFK Mariestad and went down a devastating 4-0, leaving them in what would be their worst position since 1990 if this had been the end of the season. Booo!

3 0 1 2 3-9 1

Please don't rub it in with Cleveland. I've endured 48 futile years waiting for a Cleveland championship of any kind.

I still remember watching Coppola's Dracula with brother and mother so many years ago. When the scene with vampire brides seducing Jonathan started I was expecting that mom will order stopping watching and sends us to our room. Didn't happen but it still remains weird feeling.

I still remember my Ph.D. language exam -- I signed up for both French and German, figuring I'd be able to translate at least ONE of the two languages.

I get the French first -- one of Cauchy's original papers, and realize that technical mathematical terms are universal. There's really no "translation" to be done, other than words such as "is" or "evaluates to".

So I finish the French exam in 30 minutes (of the 2.5 hours allotted), get an "outstanding pass" (apparently the exam is for people who didn't study the language in high school or college), cancel the German exam, and wonder why I spent so much time reviewing my French and German when the exam was basically, "Do you recognize technical mathematical terms being used in a different language?"

Silliest test I ever took...

EDIT: Not to be confused with "easiest test I ever took". I had a 103.5 fever but had to go in for my electromagnetism final at U.C. Berkeley. Working on the first problem, I immediately recognized a closed field that evaluated to 0. Going through the rest of the problems, I realized they ALL evaluated to 0. I figured it was my feeble fevered brain, but I went with it anyway and wrote 0 everywhere, gave brief explanations, then went home and went to bed. Finished the 3-hour exam in 20 minutes. Turns out I got the second-highest score in the entire class, as every single answer on the entire test was indeed 0.

Not true. My worst allergies all year round come in Winter. Spring and summer are about equally bad, and autumn is the least troublesome.
