In Patrick's Reign of Winter PbP, my character has made a total of 17 d20 rolls. Out of those 17, precisely five of them have been over 10. Of the remaining 12, six were rolls of 1 or 2. I'm f%$$ing cursed.

I feel like giving the current campaign a recap once I get home...

I have an item for you.

It takes up your immediate actions, but it's sorth every penny.

My two recommendations are e to see if your GM will allow you to:
- a) make one, preferably a variant that works for your character
- b) reverse-engineer the pricing guidelines to add more/day uses over time

With the latter, it'd be 5,600 per daily use (2,800 to build yourself). After you have five daily uses (28,000 to buy or 14,000 to make) you can make it "at will" by doubling that (56k for at-will, or 28 if you make it).

Again, it eats up your immediate actions, but if you really can't roll well, it is behind worth it.

(If you can get it as something like an imbedded ioun stone, even better! Double all prices/costs, though.)

EDIT: also, clothes, man. Clothes. :)

Edit 2: Seriously, though, it's an amazing item.

Wow... This Swedish film from 1949 has had enough swears to get a US R-rating in five minutes of screen time.

Admittedly, it's the kind of film where the leading lady sticks some money down the top of her stocking before heading out to meet with her escaped convict ex-boyfriend, so some salty language should be there.

Or Firefox + Lazarus.

I thought I did, and, as it turns out, I did. The problem? I was in Incognito mode (Incognito mode saves me loads of time pruning my history daily - I use my history as a way of keeping sites I want to go back to in my "auto-fill" lines in Chrome), and hadn't authorized Lazarus to touch that mode. Grrr. Lesson learned, I suppose.

Anyway, it's allowed now.

The kind of weekend that makes you wish you were pushing 30 instead of 50:

A looong weekend!:

  • Friday: Up at 5:30 am. Get conveniently-packed backs and half-asleep Impus Major out door (thanks, Past Me!) in time to catch bus with 80 other middle schoolers for a whirlwind tour/performance for middle schools around the south bay. The choir teacher (bless her soul!) provides me (as a chaperone) with a minute-by-minute list of what I'll be doing from 6:15 am to 11:30 pm. Because I'm OCD, I love her for it. When we manage to keep 80 12-14-year-olds on that schedule, I am truly blissful. And the kids are all just plain awesome! I love this trip!
  • Saturday: Another 5:30 am wakeup, this time to set up the breakfast tables so the kids can eat-and-dash to the actual competition. (Great America's Music in the Park festival, for those familiar with it). The choirs do their thing, and off to Great America to run amok for 5 hours until the results are announced. One kid gets detained for passing a counterfeit $10. Tensions are high, as he only entered the park with $20's, but private security isn't trained to deal with 14-year-olds and are totally panicking him. Fortunately, I happened to be in the right place at the right time and talked security down. I am good at such things, and he got to go on his way with a replacement $10. (EDIT: Being fair, the private security guys were absolutely by-the-book and very professional, but "by-the-book" usually means not providing ANY information to the detainee. This escalates tension FAST. So I just kept asking, "So at this point you're going to do xxx," they'd say, "Yep. That's right," and kid knew what was happening and calmed down.) One kid gets robbed (cell phone and wallet right out of her purse while she's on a ride). I find a "bonus purse" with no I.D. and no one claiming it. The good news is that it's a $10 purse with $3 and change in it, so the person who lost it didn't lose a ton. No one claims, so to the dark depths of the park's Lost and Found it goes. Not only do both choirs take #1 in their categories with scores of "Superior" (90/100), but both accompanists take personal achievement awards for "best student accompanist" in their categories! GREAT day! Home by 9:30 pm, Rift 'til 11, to bed.
  • Sunday: Leave at noon for Yosemite to take pictures of the stars. Forgot to check. Tioga Pass closed. Full moon. Clouds. Improvise! Spent 14 hours of quality time with Impus Minor driving 450 miles. Got to see a few coyotes, and they surrounded us and howled a bit on Granite Point! Beautiful! As I told Impus Minor, "Well our data is terrible, but now we have traumatic psychological scars that will last a lifetime! What a GREAT day!"
    He is unimpressed.
But it was a wonderful day, even if I rolled into the driveway at 2:00 am and had to start work at 6:30 am.

  • This morning I am a coffee achiever!

EDIT: Impus Minor informs me he no longer wants to ride in the Celica. Ever.

    *sigh*

I turned on Lords Of The Rings Online letting it run update 16, and played it for about 10 minutes... The minor lags that haunt higher level regions disheartened me, though, especially after playing so many graphically better and more dynamic games like Far Cry 2 or Tomb Raider without any problems.

I have been having the same problems in a couple of pbps. My average d20 roll in one pbp is 7.5. I rarely break 10, but when I do, it's by a lot. The situation is horribly frustrating, particularly when you craft a character to be really good - only missing on, say, 1-5 even at low levels - and they always seem to roll 1-5 on important d20s. Sucks the fun right out of the game.

It's been happening with such frequency that I'm wondering if there's something going on with the site's number generator.

Yeah I have never been exceptionally fond of Paizo's die roller. It seems incredibly biased toward lower rolls pretty much all around.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I've also wondered about the generator, but other pbps don't have that same problem. I'm not sure what the sample size is to get a significant result, but we don't really have a lot of d20 rolls in any one game.

Funny thing is, I have the same problem IRL at the table, to the point that people joke about it, won't touch or borrow my dice, and (sometimes) don't want to sit next to me.

    They claim it's the dice.

I've honestly been having similar problems in other PbPs for the last year or so, just not as bad. I usually play spellcasters, so die rolls don't matter quite as much, but this character is a highly-specialized archer, which means that if the die rolls are bad, my character just fails at everything.

It's not a big deal, and I'm not mad or anything, but it's unusual enough to give me pause.

For those die hard Seinfeld fans (I'm looking at you Orthos:-p) Hulu got the rights to put the entire series on this summer :-)

Personally I'm not sure if I'd put in my top five all time, bits it's pretty close and absolutely in the top ten :-)

    Still good stuff :-)

Oh my live-world dice roll fine, I get some low numbers from time to time sure but the middle-range stuff is more common and the high numbers make regular appearances.

Whereas on the Paizo boards, rolling above 10 is a rarity and above 15 a miracle.

Well I didn't mean it in a sarcastic way, more of a gentle ribbing because you'd said "meh" earlier, however judging from the reaction I'm guessing myself and TFY are in the minority :-)

My top five favorite T.V. shows
    1. Archer
    2. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
    3. The Simpsons (mostly pre-movie)
    4. The Office (with Steve Carrell)
    5. 30 Rock
    6. Drunk History
    7. Arrested Development
    8. Robot Chicken
    9. Family Guy (especially the Star Wars episodes)
    10. Futurama

Yes I added more, guess Seinfeld didn't make my top ten after all :-)

Edit 2: if I wasn't on my phone I'd switch Arrested Development with The Office

I don't watch enough TV to have a top ten list.

Right now the only things I really watch are Mythbusters, Adventure Time, and Gravity Falls. I need to continue watching Gallavant and watch Agents of SHIELD and Daredevil, but otherwise that's really it for TV for me.

Of the ones on your list, I've only seen Futurama and only a few episodes of it, and the occasional Robot Chicken clip on Youtube relevant to whatever conversation it was linked in.

Our roommate is going on a week-long vacation. I thought it would be a nice surprise to replace her dishwasher racks because some of the tines have broken, so when she returns, everything would be shiny and new.

    I looked up prices today.

Racks run from $130 - $200 EACH, meaning it would cost $260-$400 to replace both top and bottom. A new dishwasher is under $500.

    I... what the... I can't even.
