Still don't have a refrigerator. They've delayed delivery twice now. I've been cool about it, since I can get by without it, but I'm fairly pissed.

Needless to say, this is the first and last thing I will buy at Conn's. Next time I get a major appliance, it'll be from a national chain.

Behold the joys of refrigeration.

I... I read that as regurgitation...

Even better!

Told the car repair place to forget it, called to schedule a towtruck, and went to pay the diagnostic fee and collect the paperwork and key before getting a tow.

Found out that for $10, they did diagnostics, called out parts, and charged the battery. So even though the alternator does not work and the battery doesn't hold a charge, I was able to drive it to Puffin Mom's house and cancel the tow.

Puffin Mom's neighbor works on cars and will get either wholesale parts or get 'em from a junkyard and install them himself next week. It should be half of what they quoted at the repair shops.

Networking is so very helpful.

We're out of the house August 2 if all goes well and hope to have two (crappy but still drivable) vehicles to caravan out west. Phew!

You play the piano as well as sing? Oh, I'm so jealous! I'd give my right arm to be able to sing and my left to be able to play the piano.

Wait...

Wait...

I've been playing forever. Every once in a while, someone will still ask me, "So how long have you been playing?" That question made sense as a child. Now it's like, "Umm. I don't know. Around 26 years, I guess."

I can sing and play an instrument, just not at the same time. Mostly because that instrument is the trombone.

Granted, I haven't done that since high school... ten years ago now. It'd take some work to get back into the habit.

Singing though I get a lot more practice on, mostly from church.

I can only play on others' nerves*. And never ask me to sing. Never.

*:
In Polish it's an idiom meaning irritating others. I can't find if that expressions exist in English or not...

Checking if pudgy means what I think it means.

Yes it does.

A few facts about the City of Books:

• 68,000 square feet packed with books.
• We buy 3,000 used books over the counter every day.
• Approximately 3,000 people walk in and buy something every day.
• Another 3,000 people just browse and drink coffee.
• We stock 122 major subject areas and more than 3,500 subsections.
• You'll find more than 1,000,000 volumes on our shelves.
• Approximately 80,000 book lovers browse the City's shelves every day in Portland and via the Internet.

68,000 square feet = 1.6 acres or 6,300 square meters of retail floor space.

Nice!

As good as Hay on Wye... or better?

Rain, rain, rain...

How am I supposed to write about desert in rain.

Well, it's better than crippling heat and dust storms at least.

I must resist creating another creature with bleed special attack...

But you miss opportunity to answer "yes" to question if you play anything.

One of my favorite responses was always "Yes, I play the computer."

Spoiler:
I actually play the piano as well, but don't tell anyone...

Actually I'm playing mass effect right now.

Huh? I found three quarters (two from 1965 and one from 1978) in a drawer together with three 5-cent and three 1-cent coins...

Funny. Lesson Zero's considerably more accurate.

Ugh, never staying at this hotel again. Not without an airhorn to press against the thin walls...

...Granted, can't really think of a reason I'd need a hotel around here at any point in the near future.

Bored in the cab stand this morning.

Having trouble focusing today.

In my case it would be more of "having trouble focusing".

Evening, all. What did I miss?

Silver Crusade

The piano festivities went well, although it was terribly hot and humid. And there were mosquitos. My hands were too much of a moving target so they all bit my face. It is all swollen now. And I couldn't swat at them because I was busy playing the piano.

Anyway, those on FB can see a clip of me playing Debussy.

Tomorrow flying to Portland. Yay!

'night everyone.

Long day.

Woke up early for breakfast with parents. Yay Cracker Barrel!
Went and saw Pacific Rim. A beautiful ham-and-cheese sandwich on awesomebread.
Did some errands then came home and tried to mow the lawn. Lawnmower was uncooperative. Went back inside, played with dogs and played video games for a bit, chatted a little with Scint and Ebon, and finished my character for a PbP.
Parents got home from shopping later, Dad got the mower running. Went out to finish the yard, got about two-thirds done, then the blade belt snaps off. Had to finish the last of it with the push-mower.
Showered, ate salad, and now lounging and dinking around on the internet.

Wow, that sounds long Orthos.

I got up early, made some potato salad - got a call meaning I should meet my friends half hour earlier. Met friends, had a nice walk through the woods and avoided the nettles (mostly). Then down the pub with friends and sitting in the beer garden, getting lots of sun (whilst playing card games). Afterwards back to a friends for BBQ, whilst playing more games.

Have fun CH.

Sorry to hear about the mosquito attacks, CH. I hope your trip to Portland is fun, though!

Orthos, I'm glad your day had some bright spots to it. Likewise DSX.

It looks like I'm going to have to see Pacific Rim. I was on the fence, but I've been hearing good things from multiple sources.

Oh yeah, I also want to get some breakfast food from Cracker Barrel...
