I'm sitting in my car, counting down the minutes until I can get out of it(alternate side ends at 1030) and go inside super early(I'm not to be here until 12 noon) and ask to use the bathroom.
What could I be doing today? Hmm...
Living everyone's worst nightmare and showing up to an important job interview naked?

Technically, he already specified that he was in a suit and tie. Unless he's shed them in the car.
"Alternate side" suggests an argument in a legal case, but I don't think so, because he sounds too excited. If it is an important interview, it might be final round? Hence "alternate side" being the other guy.
But who shows up 1.5 hours early for an interview? That's kinda weird. Dude, go get a knish or something. Although then you might get flaky pastry crumbs on your suit. That would be bad.

Thanks to Google maps shenanigans, I was at the wrong place. 154TH is not 160TH Street, people. Google needs a firm smack for THAT one. I had to call the interviewer and let them know that I was a bit lost, and they fought with Google maps too until I found my way. VERY different part of town than I was originally shown to.
Naturally upon my arrival I was ready to burst. I quickly made my way to the facilities and then went to my appointment. The person who kindly guided me there had stepped out for a moment so I just sat and waited. The person came back with a handful of paperwork for me to sign and a cup and said. "Oh man, you already went to the bathroom, didn't you?!? Just sign these and drink a looot of water and let me know next time you have to go!"
So I'm sitting here drinking water and signing paperwork and waiting to pee.

Marvel Movie Timeline #6: Thor: Once again, it's an origin story. Even better, he loses all his powers at the very start of the movie (so not a spoiler) and has to become great by building his character, not his muscles.
So yeah, of course I loved it. The paladin in me greatly appreciated it.
Is it a great movie? No.
But thoroughly enjoyable and I didn't mind watching it through a second time, especially because I really appreciated the whole, "Perspective determines who the good guys and bad guys are."

I'm not sure what's on my jeans, but one of the cats was sexually writhing on them while I was trying to get dressed this morning. The day has progressed pretty predictably from there.
If you had told me this earlier, I wouldn't have been nearly so nervous. The cat was trying to tell you I got the job.

Good night, John!
I had my booster jab and 'flu jab yesterday evening - no side effects so far, bar a slightly sore left arm.
It was the company Xmas party last nigbt, too, but I didn't go, partly due to the above, and partly due to current conditions virus-wise, which I feel make eating indifferent food in a crowded room with a bunch of inebriated folk all shrieking and breathing a somewhat risky prospect. The office will resemble the Tomb of Terrors today as a result, echoing with the groans and lamentations of the shambling dead.

Speaking of smoke and electric devices...
I have just turned the water heater intending to get some warm water for washing my hair and maybe doing some dishes.
Within less than a minute I heard a weird buzzing sound from the heater followed by a loud pop and a flash of light...
It is probably gone. Not the best time to be out of hot water (aside of what I can boil in a kettle or a large pot. I went through that before for more than a half a year, but it still suck. At least I don't have to pay attention to turning it on and off but honestly, I probably prefer if it died half a year ago and saved me overblown bill for the last six months.

Winters in Poland are never rough. I don't see the issue.

Two good things are happening:
1. I called my student loan servicer today to update them on our change of address and income, as payments are supposed to restart next month with the Covid Forbearance ending, and I found out that, since the Biden Administration has been trying to revamp the public service student loan forgiveness program, and I work for a nonprofit school, I now qualify to get into the program. Also we qualify for income-driven forbearance until WW gets a better job. So, I don't have to worry about where I'm going to get the money to pay them in January.
2. We're getting a new sewer line dug! After Thomas the Plumber came out for the second time, he said it just needs to be done, now, and Miz Daisy actually agreed that it was a better idea to just deal with it. Not sure where she's getting the money from and I'm not gonna ask, I'm just grateful. No more Anus of Cerberus stench under the house!

How to Tell it's Going to be a Great Day #348:
Turning on the SwagBox to work by and having the very first song be Bad Apple.
I cranked it so loud I think I woke the Impii.

Not anymore anyway. 20-30 years ago we had actual winters. Now? A few snowflakes and a few, often separate weeks of actual cold.
On the other hand my tolerance for cold dropped significantly over the years as well...

![]() |

Climate change in my region has been a really weird mixed bag because typically it results in more precipitation and snowfall than in the centuries past due to a combination of polar vortexes that have become far more common in recent years in conjunction with lake effect weather patterns whereby warmer temperatures to the west of the great lakes sends way more humidity over the lake and into FAR colder air temperatures than it had to deal with as it drifted its way over the largely flat midwestern agricultural areas.
Generally, this results in more snow and deeper cold snap periods to a moderate degree but every so many years we get absolutely pounded with multiple feet of heavy and extremely wet snow over the course of one to three days which often ends up being quite disastrous, in one instance two years back, I believe, a majority of the stored natural gas for the whole state had safety equipment and procedures fail and caused almost all of the supply to literally explode and ruin hundreds of millions of dollars worth of infrastructure and natural gas stores which put the whole state on an emergency order to keep your thermostats at a much lower temp than normal and to cut back on using gas consumption.
It's wasn't so bad last year but whenever we have that happen I always fear that things are going to rebound and be ever worse for the upcoming winter.

And I'm done with "productive" work for Global Megacorporation for the year.
I have to file my final status report, then I have 3.5 hours of recorded meetings to watch, take notes on, and provide summaries to the team. The team loves that they don't have to sit through the meetings, and I love a mellow Friday of watching other people talk.
Vacation ho!

NobodysHome |

And since whoever owns the Dead Horse alias hasn't posted in far too long, there's another great example of senior workers' productivity: Because I've been around so long, I understand all of the topics being presented by two dozen product managers over the course of 12 hours of meetings, and I can quickly summarize and send action items to affected parties.
One senior guy for 12 hours, or six junior guys for 12 hours each, with most of their time wasted on stuff they don't need/understand. Easy choice for management to make.
EDIT: Yeah, and IF the PMs would put out an agenda so we knew what they were talking about each day we could optimize the junior team members' time, but apparently agendas are hard.

NobodysHome |

In fairness, scheduling is hard.
Oh, I'm completely OK with the way they do things. The guy in charge is really good at keeping the meetings flowing ("You have 4 minutes left. Please wrap up") and rearranging things so we stay within schedule ("There are only 20 minutes left and this topic is too big, so let's move it to tomorrow and bring this shorter topic in today").
But it does make me one of the two qualified people in the department to sit in on the whole thing (my manager being the other).
And I just don't mind. I LIKE sitting around taking notes. As if I enjoyed college or something...

As of midnight last night, Firedove is finally out of the hospital as of midnight last night. Insurance is a jerk sand refused multiple first-choice places for rehab, but the one we ended up at is a good place so far and we are grateful for it.
Kids recovered enough to attend school for the last week, and even joined in the big Christmas singalong with their class they’ve been practicing for all year!
Also; I got my booster and my kids have their first COVID shot! Today’s been busy…
Sorry I’m not around much…

How long before they expect her to be able to go home?

You have nothing to apologize for. Glad to hear Firedove is improving. She and the kids are obviously where you need to be. We'll still be here.
