I decided to take the day off ibuprofen yesterday to give my gut lining a break and not tempt the specter of internal bleeding.

Oh, bad idea. Do not do. Now I know why I take so much of that stuff. Finally knocked myself out with Benadryl at 8:30 to give a new dose of ibuprofen time to work and to take a break from the glorious kingdom of pain. Criminy.

Ick. I hope you feel better today.

+1 the feeling better, or at least down to manageable pain. That sounds awful. I finally could afford to pick up a new bottle of generic famotidine about an hour ago, so my stomach/gut pain seems to easing up now. Ugh.

Heh, there seems to be bunches of Intertoobz trolls out this last week... if we form a FaWTL raiding party to take down one, you're welcome to its regenerating liver. I've got an old copy of Organ Transplants for Dummies by "Dr." Nick Riviera around here somewhere...

Nakkid organ transplants? Somewhere, Urizen's Rule34 sense must be tingling. :)

Ah-huh-huh-huh-huh, she said "tingling."

Guess it's time to work on the Rangers.....

Yes it is. When you think about it the complexity of a typical mechanical system (say a car or even just a sewing machine) is just amazing. So many things have to happen in just the right way.

I once had a robotics class where we programmed an arm to do a simple task: pick up washers and put them on a peg. It was a real eye opener into how much goes into automating something.

And the pay isn't bad, either.

1980s Poland had the best movie posters.

Too bad about the whole military dictatorship thing going on at the same time.

In case anyone's interested, De La Soul is giving away their whole back catalogue today.

I'd start by getting rid of Harry Redknapp.

Acetaminophin has the narrowest theraputic/toxic boundary of any drug. It's toxic effect? It destroys your liver. So yeah, you don't ever want to double up on Tylenol.

I was on Aleve when it was still prescription and liked it, but didn't realize it and ibuprofen used similar mechanisms. Drugs are really quite fascinating when you don't need them.

I had a WoW guildie that was threatening suicide. As he was also trying to convince me to take him into my home to live and telling me about what a b#%*+ his wife, who had supported him financially for the last year while he played WoW at home, was and wanted to send me pictures of his privates, I had cut off contact.

i heard a few months later that he had died. What he did was he overdosed on Tylenol, and was rushed to the hospital. It turned out he had this very rare genetic condition where your body doesn't handle copper correctly. it tendes to screw up your liver and/or your brain, and is generally so rare it is only discovered after you've suffered massive damage, or a relative is diagnosed and you get genetic testing. Anyway, the Tylenol exacerabted this unknown issue that was already messing up his liver. This began to kill his kidneys. With a lot of medical intervention he was beginning to recover when he caught pnemonia and died.

Given his actions just before he went to the hospital, my personal guess is he overdosed on Tylenol as a "cry for help" attempt...that went horribly wrong. :(

So I stick with Aleve.

When I had a really bad experience with muscle spasms, I went to Urgen tcare. the doc that was slumming there instead of in an ER said you're generally safe if you stick to no more than twice the daily recommended dose of over the counter medicines. When my back is *really* bad, I admit I go as high as 3 times the daily dose for that one day. Actually had a long conversation with my doctor (who had previously, when I explained the issue, said "Oh, over the counter pain meds? You're fine, don't worry") recently baout this, as I think I should have a better solution for that one night every other month where the pain is so bad I can't sleep.

Damn.

My experience with pain meds is largely how they react with psychotropic meds. Sometimes you're going to have to go the aleve route, and never use another type of med, other times a baby aspirin might be a good idea.

Can't really add to the pain med discussion as I've been lucky enough to never have any aches bad enough that I haven't been able to stave it off with an Alvedon or (in the case of stuff I know won't go on for very long) a pint of cider/fingerwidth of whisky and some sleep.

But even then I'm smart enough to not do both at the same time.

During a school exchange with a school in Nottingham, one of the English girls (aged 16) was on pain meds after she'd broken her leg. At the teacher-free welcoming party she went on to down half a bottle of vodka. The effects were not pretty. Or fragrant.

English girls downing vodka.....shocking!

Fast zombie meerkat/prairie dog swarm? That'd be much worse than Tremors. {shudders}

That movie was lots of fun!

Ok, I might be biased because I like Kevin Bacon.

Don't they list that on the pamphlet included with the drug? I take relatively lot of paracetamol (an European/Polish name for the active substance) so I am aware of dangers.

Not much bias there. That's a classic.

They probably would if it was a prescription.

This is over-the-counter stuff. There's a warning on the label but no "pamphlet" or anything handed out with it.

That's a tad irresponsible of them...

Sadly, I have to take it in relatively high doses when I get a headache. Anything less doesn't touch the headache.

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Eh. It's not the most irresponsible thing you can find in a drug store. If it says health supplements... run.

Best relay ever!

Sweden's anchor-woman, Charlotte Kalla, went out half a minute behind Finland and 25 behind Germany with only 5 kilometers to catch them up in - and she still did it! WOOOO!

Incidentally, no-one in the Swedish team was born the last time Sweden won the women's relay.

Good morning FAWTLY Folk! Happy Saturday! Got a lot planned for today. Gonna do some laundry, cut my hair, take the boy the get his hair cut, clean some stuff around the house, visit the dry cleaners, maybe visit Best Buy (or I'll hit it tomorrow), help the wife with the kids, read some comics, and some other stuff I'm sure I've forgotten.

Scarab Sages

But first......coffee and maybe some biscuits.

Scarab Sages

Of course, I've actually been up for about an hour now.

Currently, he's obsessed with the trailer for Mr. Peabody and Sherman. And it does look funny. Especially the parts with DaVinci.

I remember watching Peabody and Sherman segments when I was a kid. They were shown in reruns of Moose and Squirrel.

All right, wife and baby girl are awake. Time to go do more daddy things.

I always thought they were the same show. Kind of like how U.S. Acres was a sub-show of Garfield And Friends.

Not much time to work on homebrew stuff today, got freelance work to do. Gotta catch up for the little work I got done last weekend due to killer headaches.

Here all drugs sold are required to have a (usually contained on a single page) instruction of use that includes any required warnings, dosage, use.

Back from work. Still alive. Except feet, they are probably undead now...

Ah. Yeah we get those on prescriptions, but OTC stuff just usually has it on the label without much detail. Acetaminophen does say that taking over the limit can result in liver damage, but doesn't go into any further detail, and makes no mention of the low toxicity border.

So...my daughter's previous, casual mention of her sexuality (by talking about a girl she has a crush on) didn't really faze me, but today's casual mention of going to the prom (by telling me about the dress she bought for it) did.

I hope she has a kickass time!

At the moment, she's planning to go with friends, and she wants to show her German exchange student what American prom is like.

Cooool!!

Sounds like she's growing up! I hope that she has a nice partner for that.

Afternoon, all. What did I miss?

Silver Crusade

I am making Beef Wellington. Feel free to be jealous.

The dress is too gorgeous/too terrible for the father to stomach?

Napped for a few hours in the afternoon and now I have a headache. Well, for accuracy I had it before I went to nap but it was weaker.

Silver Crusade

My back still hurts from shoveling too much snow on Thursday. And it is snowing again.

Regained is not a word or just google drive does not recognize it.

Interestingly Chrome does not recognize google as a word...

Silver Crusade

Regained is a word.

My heels are hurting from standing eight hours a day for six hours. With two bonus periods of two hours extra. And not enough sleep since yesterday.

Haven't you made one recently? Or is that how fast the time is running?
