Funny thing is, I remember eating a lot of roots (turnips, rutabaga, parsnips) as a kid because they were so very cheap. Now I go to pick up parsnips and get sticker shock. Same with oxtails. Trash has turned into treasure.
EDIT: Nekkid roots, tubers, and tails! Oh myyyyyy...
ox tail is a very important food in my culture. It's a staple. Cow foot soup was a regular meal for us too. I miss it so much.

heheh,... Ewww?
My dad, (God rest his soul) got it into his head to plant a few things next to the house, (Not a proper garden mind you, he couldn't be bothered with all of that work) And for a year we had a few tomato plants, radishes, and something else, I forget what.
Now, decades later, you can STILL go out there and pull up radishes. Or dodge them when you mow that section of the yard, cuz the lawnmower yanks them out and throws them around. :)
They are like the old mint plant, you can't get rid of them! :)

I was never big on ox tail stew, but boy does it bring back memories. I'd like to make some.
Never had cow foot soup. Sounds gelatinous.
I do love turnips and parsnips diced in soups and stews, to add that bit of exotic, spicy crunch. Rutabaga is da bomb, though. Just mash it with butter and ground black pepper and I'm a happy camper.

it isn't. There's a chance it might be called something different in other culture. It's essentially the cows foot (not the hoof per se, but a bony and poor cut of beef, probably from the ankle) along with all the sort of throwaway vegetables uo might feed your slaves or the poor - lots of beans, carrots, celery, potatoes, pumpkin, etc. Boil it for hours and you're good to go. Spices include salt and pepper and whatever is handy.

Ahh, so it's like ox tail stew. Some people do things with boiled hooves, so I was curious. Thank you. Now I have a yen to get out the slow cooker.

We used the pressure cooker in my household, we also made pig foot soup, pig tail soup, and chicken foot soup.

I think a lot of the dislike for maths stems from the fact that the teachers who enjoy it tend to go for a career teaching at the higher grades, so for the first few years we're taught by people who themselves didn't enjoy maths at school, and unless you have a "natural" like for the subject, the idea that it's boring kinda rubs off on you.
(That's just based on my own time doing temp-work at various lower-grade schools, so might be it's totally different in other towns.)

It's math. It's very existence is a blight upon the land. Even those who purport it to be useful enough to "teach" to others realize this, and so resort to brute force through a combination of varied indoctrination(I don't care what your teacher taught you last year! Forget it! We're doing things my way!! EVERY YEAR FOR TWELVE YEARS) mind numbing drills meant to break down resistance(times tables! Write them over and over again until you memorize them! And if I catch you writing them on the test to help you, you fail!!), rote memorization(I don't care if you never use this a day in your life, you're going to memorize my one and only way to do it ! Don't ask me what you'll use [INSERT NAME OF YOUR LEAST FAVORITE THEOREM HERE] for either you just need it to graduate this class!) and encouragement of social competition through unequal access to calculators and other tools(4th grade: you want to use a calculator? What are you, stupid? 9th grade: you don't know how to use a graphing calculator? What are you, stupid?) to "help" their students.

Actually, It sounds like they were more competent than usual. ;P
I had a teacher that held me back in math for 5 years (private Jr/high school) forcing me to take 'basic' math over and over, never allowing me access to algebra or other courses that might have been interesting. And only after she left for my sr year did I get another math teacher. So I finally got to take Algebra, and made an A. ;P
Either way,

I have to admit I have not been a fan of the recent cartoon network looney tunes show, but last night's exchange with daffy duck and porky pig had me weeping with laughter. They found a gigantic truffle in the Woods and were eager to sell it when they got back to civilization. Porky said he might use his share to buy a shirt, to which daffy responded with amazement that anyone could be so cheap. Porky pointed out daffy had been naked for years, but daffy said that was only because he loved his body.
Eventually they were chased into a tree by a bear, and when porky asked daffy to fly them to freedom, daffy responded that he wasn't that kind of duck. They attempted to outrun the bear, and ended up facing a long drop into a lake. Daffy said he couldn't swim, to which prompted porkyto aask him just what kind of duck he was anyway. Daffy responded with confusion, saying he wasn't too sure, pointing out that his beak came off pretty easily, removing it to prove his point.
